Tiny House Design: The Swing House [Green roof and solar panels included]
Last week I created a rendering of my Swing House design, but was only able to convey the Porch and general feel of the entrance of the house.
This week I went ahead and showed the back of the house at an elevated view in order to see the green roof and back porch.
This is a 300 square foot dwelling, which can be constructed quite easily with stick framing techniques. The tricky part is the roof, which holds solar panels, grass and vegetables. As you can see, I have fully intended for the roof to be usable as a private garden. The green roof also adds great protection to the house through insulation and water control. The fact that you can use roof space which would otherwise be wasted is a big perk. The plain grass patch right below the solar panels is designed to be able to lay on the roof at night for some private star viewing!
My plan is to complete construction documents within the month. I am also creating a variation which uses shipping containers instead of wood. The estimated cost of building with shipping containers can actually be cheaper and more structurally sturdy, if you don't mind the aesthetic of metal.

Veggies on the roof? When can I move in! Good luck with this, it looks great!
Thanks! Well see what happens :)
Home Sweet, Home.
This is actually a great design. You could even add a little pond and use the waste water to water the plants on the roof and cool it off. I am eager to see more.
Wow amazing design! I agree with the pond idea!
YESSSSSSSS. I'm doing a post about figuring out our grain bin house design tomorrow. Good vision!
