The Future of Architecture: Hiding in plain sight

Lack of proper housing is the biggest problem plaguing our world today. I am of the very strong opinion that the majority, if not all of the worlds problems can be alleviated with the help of intelligent architecture and city planning. In my hometown of Los Angeles, I see immediate proof of the effects of poor housing options and lackluster living conditions. Many people will blame the high population and other issues, but there is architectural proof  that it is possible to house people in dense conditions and still offer rich and sustainable living.

At Act of Dwelling, we believe that the architectural solutions are to be found primarily in history, but we have much to learn from densely populated regions such as Mumbai, India.  

Can you see our buildings?

India is a place rich with historical evidence of community driven, mass sustainable housing. We cannot promise to find the most healthy or trash free living conditions in places such a Mumbai, India, but what we do find are instances of architecture based on social consensus.

The idea of architecture born out of social consensus is one which we hold very high at Act of Dwelling. In fact, the idea has fueled a design process which speaks the same architectural language as several regions across the world. As you can see, Act of Dwelling blends nicely into the streets of Mumbai in the image above.

It also works in Taos, New Mexico.

Act of Dwelling is a creative force driven by the basic needs of human beings as units and as a collective whole. We are an architecture firm, looking to make a difference in the world by applying an array of wise building practices to create the best alternative for sustainable mass housing. 

We are in the process of developing this project and would love to hear some feedback. Our aim is to incorporate a plethora of ancient methods and modern technology to create something never seen before. Solar panels,  passive heating/cooling, water features, fruit trees, vegetable gardens, private gardens, green walls, recycled materials, flexibility, and divisibility are just some of the features that Act of Dwelling will provide.
