Evolution through Revolution - A proposal for a future Steemit upvoting system

in #steemit7 years ago

Hello dear Steemit community!

Encouraged by @shortcut and his post yesterday - https://steemit.com/english/@shortcut/das-trail-dilemma-and-project-for-a-new-with-curation-rewards - I would like to propose a change to the Steemit voting system.
This may appear overambitious, so shortly after the start of HF19. I also see a step in the right direction in HF19 - even if you can not really predict yet how the effects will be, in detail.

Therefore, take my suggestion as a model for the future, also with regard to (hopefully) increasing member numbers. For what I am proposing here, is nothing less than

But now to the core of the matter:

I assume that Steemit provides a certain budget for rewarding upvotes. Without such a limitation, the Steemit model would not be sustainable. It is described in the FAQs, which quantities of new Steem in which period are projected. This naturally also results in the maximum sums per day.

My suggestion is so simple, that it almost hurts. And some will unfortunatly be hurt.
I propose the abolition of SteemPower. This means that each Upvote has the same value, no matter who it comes from. Wow, now it's out ... :)

Yes but... some will say. And I can see why.
So here's the plan:

  • All users have the same voting power, all upvotes the same value.

  • Each user has a number of votes that he can assign. The total number does not really matter, it could also be unlimited. But as some people get carried away a little too easily, I see a limit of 30 - 50 votes as useful. This is only to keep "Amok-Voters" under control.

  • For Posts and Comments, only the number of Upvotes is displayed, because an exact display in $ will only be possible on the next day. However, an $ estimate based on the previous-day value of an upvote would be conceivable.

  • The payout then is only in Steem, since SP is indeed superfluous. So no 50/50 or 100% SP posts anymore. During the system change, the SP of each user is converted into Steem and credited to their account.

  • In addition, and as a new feature, there are "downvotes" instead of the flag system. If the ratio is worse than 5: 1 (downvotes - upvotes), the post is flagged. Posts with downvotes receive a special identification, so the users can view and vote (decide) on them.

  • And here it comes: to determine the value of one upvote, the Steem contingent available for 24 hours is divided by the total number of upvotes in the same period. This means that each Upvote has the same value. With little upvote activity more, with many upvotes less value. Therefore, the exact value of the upvotes for a post can be named only after the expiration of this voting period.

So much for that. My aim is, as one can easily see, a democratization of the voting system, limitation of abuse, and a more equal distribution of the rewards, as well as a reduction of the calculation demands on the system.

Strong stuff, I know ... But let it sink in, and then tell me your views. And until then we are glad about HF19. :)

Ammendment: I have posted this already, earlier today in german. Some valid comments were made about problems that would arise with certain aspects of Steemit, which I understand. I dont regard them, however, as unsolveable.
I know this would mean a very radical change, and a number of people would be not very happy with it. But for the community as a whole, and for its developement in the future, it would be positive in my opinion.
