Customize the content you see on steemit
You may want to see different content on the trending pages and today is your lucky day because you have the ability to limit content from users you do not wish to see. Click on the Mute button and you will never see any content from those users in the future.
If you decide you want to get content from those users in the future just click on the setting tab and you can unmute them. You will start to see a totally different trending page and not have to look at the daily siphoning.

my honest opinion is why follow someone if you dont want to get content from the person?and if you dont want to see content instead of mute why not just unfollow the user?
I agree, but this post is about the trending page so it has nothing to do with who you are following
Interesting. I've never used the Mute button. Either I follow or don't. Haven't found a use for "mute" yet - maybe I am missing something?

I think I understand. Howver, back to what @darkerhorse said - Or at least for myself, I customize my trending page by following/unfollowing.
So I don't see the need for Mute. Maybe I have a wrong understanding? I'm sure we are not the only ones confused about this :)
I think you are talking about your feeds page, that is the page that shows you a list of feeds from people you are following. The trending page/tab is a list of posts that are the most popular on steemit and have nothing to do with who you are following.

Although i saw the mute button, i didn't realize it actually makes sense to use it as well. Do you know if a mute does influence the algorythm f.e. for reputation like flagging would do?
I think it only makes post from that person not visible to you.
I use it to mute spam accounts. For a different trending page i change to another tag / category.
That works as well, I like the mute feature because its more permanent.

I do agree that having a mute button is helpful, especially when you go to the trending page and you want to see only a certain type of articles. However, I believe that it would be even better if we would have a better way of sorting articles that will help us see only the type of articles we want.
Muting other people it's a nice feature, but who knows, maybe they will publish something interesting at some point in the future, something we would like, and we can't see it because we muted them.
I still didn't mute anyone yet, and I'm not sure if I will do it soon, but I hope they add a better way to sort things and see only the things you're interested in.

Its just one of the limited tools we have available to us, so I like to make use of them.
I haven't ever used the mute button and I don't think I will be in the future. I also don't really care for the trending page. I either look at my own feed which is made up of people I have decided to follow or at the new page where you see an unfiltered stream of the new posts on steemit if I want to try and find something outside the scope of people I'm following.
I cant get enough of the mute feature, I think its really an amazing tool and a permanent solution to my annoyances.
Than more power to you, it's there to be used after all and if it fixes a problem, even better! :)
