Hey Steemians!

This just in.

in a short and sweet article, techcrunch.com contributor Nate Murray wrote a list describing all top 100 coins on coinmarketcap in 4 words or less.

With a succinct introduction paragraph so short you can practically memorise it, he writes:

This list describes cryptocurrencies.

Each gets four words. There are many.

Some are landmarks. Some are scams.

Hopefully this provides orientation.

And then describes all the familiar (and a great many unfamiliar) coins and we may or may or know of.

While almost everyone can unanimously agree that Bitcoin needs less than 4 words to describe - "Digital Gold" has been the tagine for Bitcoin since forever, and Ethereum is of course "programmable (smart) contract with money". Some of the descriptions that comes after will pull a chuckle or two from you.

Naturally I got curious as to what phrase will be used to describe Steem.

And why am I not surprised..

Accurate too in my opinion. Because most non tech-savvies would have used Facebook as reference. But then of course the non tech-savvies won't be reading techcrunch.com right?

Well, the original article does describes all 100 top coins by market cap. So if you wonder what description was used for your favorite coins, do check it out. It's a shame though on second thought, if nate were to post his article on Steem instead on Techcrunch.com, he would gave gotten more out of his writing, and it's not like he won't get views too!

Have you read the original article? What do you think about the >4 word description?

Do let us know in the comment!

Stay Awesome.

Perhaps that will onboard some redditors that read Tech Crunch

We certainly can leverage this news piece to promote it to subreddits like r/Beermoney, r/tech, or any relevant others.

If anything else the article at lest will spur interest in non-crypto savvy people into getting the basics of what each coins is.

without Steemit I wouldn't even know about reddit, haha - some other old bloggers have been mentioning it and it is kinda sweet to see this comparison now... the incentive of being able to recieve steem for your posts was one of the reasons I joined Steemit in September of this year... not because I need the money, but rather to see and find out how people from all over this world would deal with it... It is such an interessing jouney to be on ;-) A big Cheers to you @awesomianist from the Seven Mountains in Germany!

Wow! du kommst aus Bonn? (please correct me if my german is wrong)

You'd be surprised at how steem has been regarded in different parts of the world! Where im from, $3 pays for lunch in a mid-range restaurant. so it's a big deal to able to invest ones time and get THAT BIG of a return for the content we produce!

I really believe that it wont be long before Steem becomes the biggest gateway drug into the world crypto. Sure it wont be the most expensive coin, but we don't need high price. We need it to be accessible to everyone, which it already is.

I sometimes still wonder why we are only still at 400k+ users across the world. What's holding them back?

Your German is just perfect @awesomianist :-) I am sure Steemit can make a difference for many people around the world - as you say, for being the gateway into crypto. Take regions like the one you live in, but also countries like Venezuela or Greece... Steemit and the cryptos can be the "light on the horizon" for many. One thing that might be holding many back is the technical side of it and the unpresidented way it functions. Whenever I try to explain steemit or cryptos to someone who has never before heard of it, first reaction is a face full of unbelieving questionmarks LoL

Hahaha that's typical. But I guess it depends on the other person as well. I've realised that we'll never talk crypto sense into someone who's comfortable with their lives wanting nothing more out of their 9-5 jobs living for the weekends.

But for people in countries with failed finance. The one guy I'll never stop referring to is @oscarcc89!! Awesome guy from Venezuela who pretty much does steemit full time!

And it's so awesome when it comes to steem because we don't need to say much to hook them into the idea. "wanna post stuff and make money?" is pretty much all that's needed to be said. And then from there steemit will act as a funnel for those curious into knowing what "blockchain" is.

Before this, crypto talk will pop question marks on heads. Now it's money sign on eyes. Which is definitely a step forward Hahahaha.

I'll have to have a look at @oscarcc89 :-) Haha, here in Germany most people will have even more questionmarks on their heads when I say "post and make money" :-) Finally managed to encurage my on husband to make his introduction post yesterday -- took me more than a month, haha... A sunny Cheers to you and have a great day!

Very cool. Although it's kind of funny that you can read his own personal biases from the descriptions.

I think he pretty much severed any chance of getting along with the BCC people. Along with any other coins he labeled as Clone.

I don't expect people to take his word at face value though. Seriously constraining his description to 4 words will garuantee some funny things to be said.

It is the money part that also make Steemit more interesting.

The whole core idea behind the Steem Blockchain is to enable tokenized incentive to content creators. Making it I think the most relatable to the masses.

If Steem follows the Metcalfes Law we are going to see huge increase in Value once we've reached our first million signup.

Exciting times ahead!

How so? can you elaborate?
