Sand Creations Bring life to the Beach Front

I recently visited the coastal area of Durban, South Africa where I found a sand artist making the most amazing sculptures out of beach sand. I commissioned Bongani, one of the registered sand sculptors on Durban’s Golden Mile to chisel the Steemit logo into his sand sculpture.

Inspiration

Bongani was born and grew up in Durban. Sculpting often means he doesn't have to go to bed on an empty stomach. It keeps him out of trouble and gives him something to be proud of. He enjoys speaking to people who visit his sculptures to take photos and sometimes gets donations from tourists.

The sculptures are continuously sprayed with sea water so that they don't crumble. They are also repaired and restored daily as they are sometimes vandalized in the evenings.

@spartanza recently proposed a crowd funded marketing campaign for steemit in South Africa: https://steemit.com/crowdfunding/@spartanza/steemit-marketing-campaign-for-south-africa. The intention was to grow and increase the value of Steemit.com for the benefit of its users and to show the world that the unbelievable is believable. I too have the same vision and made a small contribution by spending 50 bucks on this piece in a high traffic area.

The steemit logo was strategically placed alongside the Big 5 sculpture (referring to South Africa’s elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard) because this piece of art was getting the most photos taken. Steemit was included in all those photos :)
