Different people use this platform in different ways. Some make content. Some just comment. Others primarily curate. You will have to figure out what works for you.

If you are a content creator, though, which it seems like you are working toward, I would advise you to not base the success rating of your posts on their payouts. Payouts depend on a number of things, but mostly they depend on the current price of Steem (which was the highest its been by far in ten months when you got your biggest payout) and the amount of Steem Power your curators have. Most likely, your $80 post was voted on somebody with a lot of Steem Power and a big curation trail, which means that the bots following his/her votes jumped onto your post without looking at it.

In mind, the posts with the most views and comments are the most successful. Another thing to consider is which of your posts get resteemed the most and bring you the most new followers. Without people following you, you won’t have an audience, and you will just be pouring your content into the void.

It takes time to build a following. One of the best ways to do that, though, is to interact with people. Often, people vote not only on your content, but on who you are as well. If they know you, they will probably throw a vote your way just because they like you.

As for cashing out, well, that’s all up to you. Many people use their Steem Dollars to cash out or invest in other crypto currencies. If you want to play this game for the long run and make money through curating as well, your best bet is to either power up for six months or more until you reach your goal, or invest in Steem.

When Steem was only worth 10 cents, a thirty dollar post used to bring in over 100 steem power tokens and sometimes not any Steem Dollars. In my mind, that was the best time to create content because you got huge vests in Steemit. These days, it will take a lot more time to build up Steem Power.

Regardless, socializing here is key. Comment, comment, comment, and create. Go to the chat and promote your content. Don’t take it personally when the content that you feel best about doesn’t get the reception you wanted it to. Maybe it just got overlooked. Maybe the market doesn’t share your opinion. That’s just the way it is.

I suggest making content you like to make and not worrying about trying to catch a big vote. It’s more fun that way.

Thank you - thank you - thank you! It means a lot that you would take the time to write out a wonderful post like this in response. This helps my perspective very much. I will keep these things in mind moving forward.

Some people get burnt out here. Just try to have fun. This platform is still in Beta. Someday, it may become a reliable source of supplemental income, and for big investors, it might be that already, but for most of us, it's a gamble and an investment. We trade in our time with the hope that it will pay us handsomely in the future.

I'm very happy with the value of my account now. Especially because I was able to invest in a Viva Crown Coin with my earnings here.

Viva Crown Coin I'll have to look into that. Still figuring out this crypto currency thing.

Viva is a really interesting project. It's well worth looking into.

Think you did allright for first week. it can take some time to build a following to get steady results and still there are no guarantees for payouts. Making a living is a big stretch, i'd think. Though some may do pretty good.
Reason to the difference between views and upvotes are voting bots. they can trail other users, not sure how that all works.
I'd say steady flow of good quality content and lot of interaction will get you there. promoting helps too in chats/discord channels and other platforms.

Join the club my dear......#newbies have gained very little support from the experts. Only now, after it has been pointed out to the experts, that good content 'posters' are getting fed up working hard and getting very few views and votes, and could leave. A few experts are beginning to read #newbies and resteam the ones that are deemed worthwhile. All credit to them. What is the point of steemit community just rewarding the experts who post and post.....and ignoring #newbies? They will only end up with themselves! X

Will share my thoughts later. I'm on the run now.

Look forward to what ya got.

If you look around at other "newbies," I think you'll find that you had an amazing first week... Very unusual for anyone who is not already a "big name" coming in from elsewhere...

Just my humble opinion...

In any case, hope you'll stick around. The only way to find out is persistence. :)

😄😇😄
