FIVE reasons a referral system might be the answer right now with the registrations closed

in #steemit8 years ago

Hello Steemers,

Yesterday, new registrations have been temporarily stopped and an invite wait list has been opened to the wide public. There have been many posts about this sign-ups suspension and they go over the reasons and off course benefits there. This is not the point of my article today.

Today I also wanted to bring to discussion a system that could sort out some of the main issues Steemit is dealing with at the moment in terms or spam accounts, post quality, double posting etc.
And the system is:

Here are 5 reasons why referrals are a beneficial option for the entire community:

1. Referred Steemers Bring More Quality

As a true steemer, you have to #doyourpart and when you invite someone to join, you do that knowing your responsibility to the community and recommend only people that are a good fit and their contribution add true value.

2. Referrals are More Engaged

If someone receives a recommendation, they know there is a certain expectation from them, they know they have a responsibility towards they person who refereed them and to the community they have been referred to. Someone pledged for you and you need to step up to the task.

3. Guidance for Minnows

Every new steemer has questions and knows little of what is happening around them. The person who referred them will also act as their guide around the Steemit world and educate them along the way. This ensures faster and higher education levels for the entire community.

4. Referral incentives

A referral program has the ability to enhance the engagement level and bring a fresh approach to the general attitude of the Steemit community. A 'gamification' concept such as the referrals system that is also incentivised will be widely adopted and put in practice, increasing the quality of the content as a result.

5. Steady growth

As opposed to the standard sign-up process where everyone could join, even multiple times if they wanted to, a referral program ensures that there are no spikes (limited # of invites) that can jeopardizes the quality of the service to the current user base and maintain the platform's level to the highest satisfaction levels for the entire community.

[BONUS] 6. Engaged sub-communities

Listening to an interview of the Steemit founders, they are envisioning certain authors building a support user base that would follow them with every new post given the content created is of high quality. People you recommend would definitely be following your posts and sincerely provide their opinions about the content you create. This can help you build a base of referred subscribers that back you up along the way, ensuring a constant revenue stream.

Conclusion: the entire Steemit concept is based on valuable content creation and grows on that. Everything that can support this, including having trusted users be referred to Steemit will help us get there.

Let me know your toughs about this!

Thanks for sopping by,

Excellent post. I completely agree.
A few days ago, I was complaining about the ease of sybil attacks under the previous system.
This would provide a disincentive to sybil attacks, due to the fact that each new user would be connected to the previous one.
