Is YouTube down? US East Coast left without access to video site after apparent outage

Users take to Twitter to vent their rage as YouTube collapses for up to half an hour

YOUTUBE went down this morning with viewers across the East Coast of America unable to log on.

People who tried to visit the site were met with a message which said: “Sorry, something went wrong.”

The website Down Detector reported more than 15,000 reports about the outage, which peaked at just after 9am EST (9pm BST).

Visitors to YouTube were met with words: “A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation.”

People immediately took to Twitter to vent their rage.
