Let's Research If Promoting a Post on Discord Groups is Useful

When I first started on Steemit, I started promoting my posts on different platforms. I did so by promoting my Steemit posts on several discord groups as well as Facebook groups. If Steemit is seen as a marketplace and your post is a product, it is important to promote your product for as many people as possible.

Through promoting your posts to as many people as possible, you should be able to in a way, 'advertise' your post to different readers and not just your usual audience.

Growing My Readers & Followers

Through producing quality posts consistently, it is likely that more people will start following you. If organizing competitions is your thing, then you will want to get your word out so that more people will be able to join up.

Hopefully, with many people seeing your post, that translates into upvotes in the future. Furthermore, it helps if you are running community projects and are looking for support, having a large amount of followers and readers, it helps in gaining support and the word out to as many people as possible.

Sustainability

It is important to maintain a constant flow of ideas. As such, it is important to keep yourself updated and inspired. One way is through reading the posts posted in the post promotion sections of the various discord groups. I like reading through these posts as some of them help me in gaining a new perspective on some of the posts that I am already writing.

In addition, it is pretty fun to join different contests. This can be in the form of writing contests, photography contests and other contests. There are days where the creative juices just stop flowing and all I can do is just stare blankly at the screen. Thus, with contests, at least it provides me with an idea or a framework to start with.

The Problem/Question

As much as I hypothesize how great it is to gain more readers from discord group, I do wonder how true it is. It could be that many of my followers found my post through other means. In addition, they could have just stumbled onto it when scrolling through the thousands of posts on Steemit.

The Proposal

So let's put this idea to the test, shall we? I will post this on as many discord groups and facebook groups as I can and know. If you find me through a particular discord group, please write something in the comments below. State which discord or facebook group you found me. You need not follow or upvote me but a resteem to get more people seeing this would be great.

The idea is to confirm which discord and Facebook group's members responded the most. I will publish a separate post with the findings. Hopefully it directs you to some awesome groups where you can promote your posts.

So, to recap, just post which discord or facebook group did you see this post in the comments below. Steem on!

I've read some of the other comments before leaving my own and I agree. Just dropping links and leaving is not a way to gain visibility. It becomes annoying to dedicated members of Discord groups.

I believe in the "getting back what you put in" mentality

Agreed and thanks for your input. Your opinion does help add more insight to my next post. People often forget about the social aspect of steemit.

I don't think discord groups are of any help whatsoever unless you do interact in the group, if you just post your link on their post promotion channel your results will practically be nil. Now if you become a regular contributor in the group's channels you are much more likely to get results. I found this post because I follow you and saw it in my feed.

Thanks for letting me know, that's absolutely true, we need to interact with the people in the group or else there's no point even posting the posts there.. At least that's how it is for now

Hi @alvinauh, although we all belong to #teammalaysia ironically I found this post of yours via a link from someone's else's post. So it is neither Discord nor FB groups.

Great initiative! So far I have found that I get most upvotes from promoting my posts in voice promotions in Steemit Ramble and Whaleshares discord groups :D

I saw this post quite awhile back on the Steem Malaysia Facebook Group but I was going to sleep so didn't comment on it. Then, I saw it again on The Steem Engine and decided to go for it!

what we see today, are just people looking for groups to drop their links, not even minding if their content is good enough or not. post promotion is really effective when you are active on the group, and when your content is good enough

I found you on the STEEM Engine discord group. That one is great. I have found that a lot of the generic post-promotion channels on many of the servers yield little if any returns. That isn't the case with STEEM Engine, Steemit Ramble, and PAL though.

I'm new to discord and am giving it a go. I found you in the STEEM Engine room but was following you :D Not sure how good it is yet but will let you know on my progress :)

Hey Alvin. Always a pleasure to check out your posts. I think this is an interesting experiment. I found this post in post-promotion at @thesteemengine!

I think it's great that there are already some comments from users who have found you from our group. Says a lot about the effectiveness of the channels!
