In honor of the new moon in Leo today and my sun sign here are a few things you should do to be the king of your life!

"1. You WILL be judged on your performance.

All the world is a stage while the Sun is in Leo, so rehearse your lines…and script them wisely! You will be applauded—or booed—loudly now if you step up to the mic. But don’t let that stop you from making an unforgettable impression. During Leo season, let passion be the driving force behind everything you do.

We could all find ourselves daring to be vulnerable during Leo season, but should also be wary of getting swept away in personal theatrics. Leo energy can often upstage others, forgetting that each and every person is a valuable member to a team. Yet, Leo’s flair for powerful leadership can also let everyone have their place on the playbill.

While life turns into an improv festival, here’s a tip for the shy: Use storytelling as a way to engage people. Did you know that it’s been scientifically proven to activate our whole brains? Use (non-rambling!) anecdotes to illustrate a point, skipping the dry, bulleted lists. During Leo season, we’re on the edge of our seats, ready to be moved and motivated. Share your experiences and speak from the heart.

  1. Don’t underestimate the power of “owning it.”

Do you! Leo energy encourages us to add our signature stamp to all that we do. Leo season is a time of pageantry, a cosmic coming-out ball of sorts. Wardrobe: check! Experiment with hair, makeup, accessories and colors you don’t normally wear. Get a tattoo. And while you don’t have to go full diva or debutante, have some fun with your look. Style is a tool for self-expression, so choose the statement you want to make. This is NOT a season for fashion as tyranny or an elitist insider’s club. Fiery Leo is a democratic sign, urging us all to express ourselves outwardly. And yes, we recognize that the #flaunt factor of Leo time can bring up body and self-image issues. (For that, we suggest reading our Body-Positive Summer Horoscopes here!)

  1. Things could get unnecessarily complicated.

Ugh, the capital-D draaaaaama. During Leo season, everyone clamors to be seen and heard, which can dial up the diva vibes big-time. Trying to make a simple plan can feel like negotiating world peace. There will be more “difficult” and childish personalities to navigate than at an elite private pre-school “open admissions” day—or um, at a Senate meeting about a certain draconian healthcare bill. [Yes, we just talked about politics and we plan to continue, so please don’t email us to complain. Free country. Leo season. Ya know.]

Take a deep breath. Remember that even though it may seem like it, this current situation is NOT the end of the world, or the last opportunity you’ll ever have, or your moment to deliver an Oscar-worthy acceptance speech (unless, of course, you’re winning an Oscar). Do your part and urge people to keep it simple…and don’t add to the unnecessary theatrics yourself! For help keeping your wits about you, listen to our Leo Season Guided Meditation here.

  1. Leo time is play time, so unleash your inner child.

One danger of Leo season is that people take themselves too seriously. Everything becomes SO charged with meaning and importance that simple interactions turn into soap operas. Too much! Make a conscious effort to keep things FUN. Leo rules the zodiac’s fifth house of playfulness and childlike wonder. Host a party, hop on the “adult coloring” bandwagon (we’ve got Natalie Zaman’s magical symbolism one, Color and Conjure, on pre-order). Break out into interpretive dance during the morning meeting. Bring some of Leo’s life-force energy into the mix by getting creative—and physical.

  1. There’s never been a better time to push the envelope.

While Leo season’s childish demands can be exhausting, the whole idea of “acting your age” should also (deservedly) land on the chopping block. Forget about all of society’s rules during Leo season. Reinvention queen Madonna is a Leo, as is the ageless and ever-limber Jennifer Lopez. At this writing, a new buzzword—perennial—is gaining attention for its attempt to describe a demographic of people who might not be born in the millennial years but are “ever-blooming, relevant people of all ages who live in the present time, know what’s happening in the world, stay current with technology, and have friends of all ages.” During Leo season, let’s all hold our heads high instead of shrinking.

Leo energy is an endless bag of tricks—and Leo season is a time to do something edgy and fun that disrupts the boring status quo. Last summer our friend and savvy blogger Gala Darling (who has Venus and Mars in Leo) launched into Leo season last year by blending her twin passions for Goth-inspired fashion and fitness, creating Bad Witch Workout. Not exactly two genres you’d put together! We LOL’d at the witty and honest way she talked about exercise—a great example of how unvarnished integrity can help us transform our daily routines from glum to glam during Leo season.

  1. Know the difference between bravery and bullying.

Leo is ruled by the proud and regal Sun, the center of our solar system. During Leo season, we may occasionally um, forget that the world doesn’t revolve around us. Egos can run amok. Defending our “honor” or “principles” can start to sound a lot like bullying and bigotry. So feel free to have an opinion—and to take a stand for it. Just make sure you’re not silencing someone else’s right to have theirs.

  1. If you must roar, do it with love.
So yeah. Prepare to dodge some chest-beating loudmouths during Leo season. Sadly, the most obnoxious people to surface during Leo time are often well-dressed, super hot and charismatic. But what the heck are they saying? Let’s not get so dazzled by the show ponies that we end up running off with their circus!

Here’s a #LeoSeasonChallenge we could all take on: Let’s spend as much time thinking about what comes out of our mouths as we do plumping our pouts—and maybe, just maybe, our righteous roars can make a difference. Infuse your intentions with love and that mighty bellow will become a rallying cry for everyone to claim the Leo season birthright: passion, fierceness and joy!"
