No sex, we're steemit... Are we really going back on censorship free?
So we are all wanting steemit to grow and many people have been pushing the fact that steemit is censorship free as being a big selling point. This has become a big thing since the fake news thing was trumped up by the media who actually peddel opinion more than news.
Then we get new members of our community arrive who are posting something different and (some of) our religion conditioned brains don't like it.
There are people wanting the ability to block tags, I've seen a post this morning saying a certain tag is being blocked. Yep its the old nudity and porn debate.
Western society has for centuries pushed the position that a females body has to be covered, it's a puritan propaganda that is ingrained into us. Yet go look at some of the greatest works of art in European history and you see nudes and bare breasts everywhere. The female body is used by advertisers to sell everything. It's used for 'eye candy' in all walks of life, get a pretty girl in to get the mens hearts racing.
Now I don't really want to be flooded with porn and nudity here the same as I don't want to be flooded by groundless hatred of minorities/ religions/ differences. ( Like what was happening on FB where I just unfollowed people.) So if I see a post I don't want to view in my newsfeed I scroll by it. (Just because I don't want to look others do like to look.)
JOB DONE.
Maybe there should be tags we can choose to not see, it's early days here and I'm sure many new features will come in over the next months. Yet if someone is posting things you don't like they shouldn't be downvoted if said post is tagged and titled to say what it is. Steemit is great because we are all different and posting our own stuff, to start hounding people who post something different to our own thinking would lessen our site here.
Anyway that's my opinion, live and let live to post.
The fact that Steemit can arbitrarily decide to censor their feed of the Steem forum makes Steem much less valuable to me.
Steem's only claim to fame is that the blockchain it runs on cannot be censored. Without that, it's no different content-wise than any other web-based message board out there.
Are there any reader applications out there that directly parse the blockchain to provide the uncensorable forum that Steemit apparently cannot?

I have no issue with it being here, and I am not religious. I just don't want to see sexual pictures in the thumbnails. I can scroll right on by everything else.
So if they post an initial non sexual image at the start of their post it's all good.
Well obviously, I don't speak for everyone, but that is my position. :)

Just some thoughts:
There is a difference between nudity and porn. Large grey area, but still.
If Steemit is for 13 years old and over, and you allow porn without further measures, you open yourself to prosecution in most countries in the world.
Who is going to check if the porn shown on Steemit involves people of legal age?
Many people don't want to see porn here, so it might be a good idea to be able to mute based on category.
Yep, whole can a worms... Age verified to unlock certain tags etc etc...
It's a mess we don't need but some will push it and claim censorship without even thinking about consequences...
Could the NSFW stuff be visible only on a different site... steemitup.com? or some such?
Being unable to safely scroll at work, and copping heat from parents of youngsters doesn't really seem worth embracing the already saturated porn content market.
