Curation Bot : The choice of a "business model"

in #steemit7 years ago

Hi fellow Steemers,

Steem

I made a curation bot that is quite efficient - but still improvable, I concede. But it's time to prepare its public release.
I would like to make it public - as I just said -, but I can't just give it away like that, because if it's put in competition with itself, the bot will become less and less efficient the more competition it has against a similar algorithm. What we could call a "lose-lose" situation.
So the best way to proceed is to keep it in one place, but trying to increase the Steem Power it has at his disposal.
The problem is that all curation rewards generated by the bot from delegations will be his, so there's no incentive for people to delegate and make the bot more profitable (as with more delegations it could take more votes and do bigger upvotes, getting a bigger part of the rewards' cake).
It could even become "useful" by curating quality content with no consideration of profitability, but that's not for now.

So there's a few possible choices :

  1. People delegate Steem Power to the bot account, who is perpetually powering down the SP gained from curation to pay delegators. But some problems arise with this solution : if there's not enough investors, payments won't be regular at all. Moreover, if the main delegation comes from myself, I will not be able to perpetually power down keeping enough Steem Power to get significant curation rewards. Remember that the first goal (for now) is to increase Steem Power dedicated to the bot.

  2. Offer votes for delegating Steem Power to the bot (The power of the vote will of course depends on the amount you're delegating, but it would allow to give a vote - always superior to 0.04$ ensuring you'll get a payout after 7 days - even to really small delegations, who will just have less votes than bigger delegations - and smaller votes), at a rate that is superior than the interest gained on your Steem Power. This will encourage people to let the Steem Power in delegation for a long period (not that long, but preventing the one day to one week delegations), for it to be profitable even with the 7-days un-delegation freeze.

  3. Making it like a lottery : you delegate Steem Power to the bot, the amount determining the tickets you get for each draw, the prize being a full power vote (lottery will take place every time the bot has not enough votes selected by the algorithm to spend all his Voting Power - 90% being the absolute minimum). There could be multiple winners (First 50% upvote, Second 30% and third 20% and a lot more winners when Steem Power will be high enough, but we must keep the prize > 0.04$ for a vote).

  4. Promoting it as a curation trail for other people to follow, but with that, I will be the only one profiting for people voting after me in the curation trail. Every one will get rewards from curating, but rewards will be really disparate depending on your Steem Power and your arrival position in the trail.

  5. An hybrid solution with for example regular votes (2) and less frequent lotteries (3) at the beginning, and when enough delegations are made, going to the perpetual powering down system (1).

  6. Something totally different that a nice steemian will propose in the comments.

So, do you have any other idea of "business model" for such a bot ?
If not, which one do you prefer ?

I'm welcoming any remarks, questions, etc... Never did a project like that so there might be a lot of flaws in my reflexion. I would love to see these flaws pointed out !

Or all of the above

I would recommend you start by "letting him loose" so that everybody sees it at work (with the SP with which it will start) and gets to assess and comment. This would be a bit like the @gentlebot (which upvotes comments at random, whatever) but it will give people an opportunity to see it at work

And then you can adapt it iteratively.

Ok, I'll work on making a little report every day (or 2 days) to get people to know it and assess its performance. He's already at work, but as it's on this account, it gets "polluted" with my own votes that puts him into technical unemployment the time to get Voting Power back.
But I could separate "virtually" both accounts to get only his actions and report about its part.
Thanks !
