Steemit question - help for dummies

in #steemit7 years ago

Hi dear steemians!

Can anybody help me to understand why a 7 upvotes post of mine got arround $3 and another 80 upvotes post got only $1,30???

Whats the reason of this? Am i doing something wrong? Anything to do with steem power?

Thank you very much in advance!

Sort:

Nothing you did wrong. All that means is that the first 7 voters combined have more Steem Power than the later 80 combined. Their votes count for more because they have more money in the game. As you generate more Steem and power it up, your voting power will increase proportionally.

Thanks a lot mate! But what is actually steem power for then? Only to make others earn more when you upvote them or also to gain more with your posts? Why should i be having more s power then?

Hello @albertoyago

There are several befits with Steem Power:

  • Steem Power pays you interest.
  • You get paid when you upvote. The reason for that is when someone upvote you, you get 75% and they get 25% ( to put it simple, it is a little bit more complicated).
  • If you upvote your own post, comment or reply, you get all the money if you have Steem Power (75% + 25%).
  • When people decide if they should follow you they often look in your Wallet to see if you have Steem Power.

There are other benefits but I suggest you read about the whole system later.

Hahaha im spanish and the guy of the las video is called "risitas" and was a celebrity here arround 10 years ago...hahahah so funny!

Hi @albertoyago

Power Up everything to Steem Power in the beginning, that is my advise.
Find a debit card and use what you need when you need it. I use https://wirexapp.com Keep the rest in Steem Power and earn more.

Can you use Steem and other cryptos on Wirex or just Bitcoin?

Having more Steem Power does not make your posts earn more, unless of course you upvote your own posts which some folks do and others do not.
A percentage of the money you are granting with your upvotes does come back to you in the form of curation rewards. The more Steem Power you have, the more of these you will earn. Steem Power also accrues interest like a savings account. Currently it amounts to about 1.5% APR I believe.
You do not earn immediately from commenting, but it is a great way for people to upvote your comments (earn) and discover you (gain followers to improve future earnings.)
Resteeming also does not benefit you immediately, but curation rewards are partly based on how popular a post becomes, and how early you were in discovering and curating it with your vote. So if you vote on something great and then resteem it, that could lead to more earnings by helping that post become more popular.

1000000000 thank you dear @bryan-limhoff

I was wondering how that worked as well. Thanks for the explanation!

Hi @albertoyago! First of all, welcome to Steemit! Second of all, you are not doing anything wrong... the difference in amounts and number of votes depends on the influence (or "seniority," if you will) of the people doing the voting.

In other words, 5 people with a lot of influence can add more value to a post than 100 people with very little influence.

The amount of voting influence a person has on Steemit can be determined by looking at how much "Steem Power" they hold. Some of the people who became part of the platform a year ago when it first started have a LOT of influence. I have been here for about 4 months, and have grown to have "some" influence. As you post more quality content and get a following of your own, so your influence will grow as your Steem Power balance grows.

Thanks a lot @denmarkguy ...what about the curators payout? How is that divided? Do i earn for commenting in other people's posts too? And for resteeming? Whats the advantage to have more steem power? I mean,it helps you to make other people make more money, but it does not really impact on your earnings directly right? So many questions... Im sorry!!!! Hahaha

I believe it's bacause some of us are mini minnows and have very little steem power so our upvotes just increase your visibility; the more steem power someone has, like maybe @thedenmarkguy, the more their vote is worth.

Thanks mate! ;)

Thanks mate! ;)
