The Egyptian Interior Ministry said Monday evening that an explosion took place in Al-Gamaliya district in central Cairo during the pursuit of the security services as a terrorist element, killing three people, a terrorist and a security man, and wounding three others.

A statement issued by the Egyptian Interior Ministry said that "as part of the efforts of the Interior Ministry to search for the perpetrator of the incident of throwing an improvised explosive device to target a security point in front of Al-Istiqama mosque in Giza after Friday prayers, the search and tracing of the route of the perpetrator revealed the location of the Dardari sailors on Red Line."

The statement continued: "Security forces besieged him and when he was caught and controlled, one of the explosive devices in his possession exploded, killing the terrorist and the martyrdom of a police secretary from the National Security and a police officer of the Cairo Investigations."

The security services surround the site of the incident, while the explosives teams are combing the area, according to correspondent "Sky News Arab."

The security forces in Egypt seek to pursue terrorist cells, which are active from time to time to carry out acts of terrorism to harm the stability of the country.
Since the isolation of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, violent clashes have been taking place between the security forces and extremist groups in the country, especially in the north and central Sinai, which caused hundreds of deaths on both sides.

The Egyptian branch of the Da'ash Organization (Sinai) has built a large number of bloody attacks against the security forces and Egyptian citizens, whether in the Sinai Peninsula or abroad.

The Egyptian army continues a comprehensive military campaign launched in February 2018, with the participation of police forces, to counter terrorists, and has so far killed hundreds of extremists.
