Interestingly for cryptocurrency enthusiasts out of all the 850 new words and phrases such as a dumpster fire glamping wealth and life hack the Bitcoin logo took center stage on both Merriam Webster's main tweet and its web site announcement about the new dictionary and entries seems like Bitcoin and Bitcoin is more important and then dumpster fire or glamping I don't even know what glamping is please let me know in the comments section what the hell is glamping I'm just not down with these these words guys the website also features the statement just above the words cryptocurrency is now in the dictionary

The Bitcoin logo quote the language doesn't take a vacation and neither does the dictionary the words we use are constantly changing in big ways and small and we're here to record those changes each word has taken its own path in its own time to become part of our language to be used frequently enough by some in order to be placed in a reference for all if you're likely to encounter a word in the wild whether in the news a restaurant menu a tech update or a Twitter meme that word in the dictionary I guess if it's only if it's widely used I guess

Emily Brewster associate editor at merriam-webster stated in order for a word to be added to the dictionary it must have widespread there you go sustained and meaningful use these new words have been added to the dictionary because they've become established members of the English language and our Terms people are likely to encounter that's good that's good so if if Bitcoin blockchain ico cryptocurrency are words that people are unlikely to encounter that to me guys is a good sign of the times I want you know I wonder how they measure that though how do they how do they collect that data to know whether this is of enough common usage to be added with enough sustainability well Bitcoin has been around for a while that's true I guess it kind of makes sense because bitcoins already in the dictionary these new words have been added to the dictionary because they've become established members of the English language and our Terms people aren't likely to encounter in addition to the merriam-webster dictionary of the words cryptocurrency blockchain and ICO seem to fit those criteria very well

There were some tongue-in-cheek comments on the Twitter announcement including a Gen Z hijacking language and grammar while the adults still think they are in control of the narrative that's you okay the dam of all you seek to corrupt the invaluable in in a voluble institution of tongue to their devices and didn't we add covfefe
