RE: Quick thoughts on Steemit Inc being Sold to Justin Sun

in #steemit6 years ago

You kind of lost me in technical details but I pretty much got the idea. I don't know why but I never liked Justin and always felt about Ned being a sneaky one. From what I noticed even news outlets are talking Steem and Steemit as if they were one and the same. I really really hope that this blockhain and its current apps to remain unaffected. I only use twitter besides Steem, and if it would go to hell, that means most of my online life would flush down the toilet. My vote is weak but at least a resteem I can offer and a proper tweet share. I guess those are the times when communities have to prove being strong.

Basically everything that runs on Steem requires access to RPC nodes. A node with all API plugins can be fairly expensive to run per month (was told $200-$600 iirc).

Some apps have private nodes but take @steemflagrewards for instance. We point to @anyx's node and once they decide to shut it down. We're pretty much done.

I'm considering methods to keep the Steem experience going without the costly nodes but it may take something akin to hitting the reset button and archiving all old transactions to a slower storage medium.

Much of the data we interact w on chain is stored in RAM which is relatively expensive compared to magnetic or even solid state drives.

Hope that clears up the technical mumbo jumbo.

A bit yeah... Thanks for the efforts to explain a technical noob like me.
