Dear Steemit creators and developers fix this site fast or disaster is coming

in #steemit9 years ago

Please stop this site from being overtaken by bots that have just recently been coming in and taking over this site. I am tired of the spam accounts taking away from this site and making all of my posts less visible due to all these bot accounts that vote on every single post that are worthless accounts with little to no Steem power in them. Just recently I have noticed that there are more spam accounts, that post someone else's work and try to take credit for something that is not theirs, and also they up vote every single post that they can.

Better solution

We need to come up with a better solution for eliminating bot accounts that vote on every single post and post worthless material that has little to no value to the community. Why not make every account verify who they are with a cell phone confirmation code and you can only use a cell phone # one time on the site for one account. We need to reward the valuable content creators and eliminate the spamming accounts.

Heck with your crab bucket mentality story in the white paper

I know the white paper says that we should not have the crab bucket mentality, but this is taking it to far, much worse then some guy just posting a bunch of random articles. This is people creating a bunch of fake accounts to try and game the system and earn on work that isn't theirs and vote on every post they can to earn more on voting. This is getting rather ridiculous and if the Steemit team fails to come up with a solution quickly I see this going down the road to a disaster and the concept failing and being thrown in the garbage.

Please fix it

I only want to see a solution to the bot accounts and spammers. I fear that if this doesn't get fixed quickly then the concept will fail to catch on to the mainstream world and this concept could just be thrown into the garbage. I really hope that the Steemit developers come up with some solutions to spammers / bots. We need to eliminate being able to vote on every single post how about changing the code so that people can only vote a maximum of like 15-30 times per day or something similar to this? Reddit has better regulations put in place to eliminate spammers. I know the code is not supposed to eliminate the crab bucket man on the beach but like I said this is getting rather ridiculous.

but like I said this is getting rather ridiculous.

What's more ridiculous is that controlling human behavior seems to be your proposed solution.

Bots are programmed by humans to do tasks that humans want them to do.

Eliminating the bots means you eliminate functionality.

I fear that if this doesn't get fixed quickly then the concept will fail to catch on to the mainstream world and this concept could just be thrown into the garbage.

If you think that Steemit is going to be 'thrown into the garbage', you're obviously not seeing the bigger picture. I can sum it all up in one sentence too...

If you don't like how Steemit works, you can go create a competing platform or go write for free anywhere else.

I am not saying that I don't like how the platform works. All I am saying is that we need to eliminate the bots and have only 1 account per person. We don't want the platform to be ruined with a bunch of people who are just up voting their own stuff.
Facebook has verification methods for creating an account because they don't want a bunch of fake profiles on their website.

You really think it is a good thing to have a bunch of fake profiles on this platform? I don't think it would be good for the platform to be filled with a bunch of people just trying to game the system. It would be better for the long term value of the company to get rid of bots I think. But like they say opinions are like assholes everybody has one.

thank you @acassity for this very good article .. I agree with you
I think we need a place to report any spam with the accompanied proof screen shoot to immediately followed up by a team steemit and we all should be compact to combat spam bots together...

good to see someone pointing it out! keep this site bot-free!

Excellent post!

It's decentralized. Make something to fix it yourself?

Good idea maybe come up with my own social media site! Ha

Well thanks for your opinion and the time you took to work that out.
But a phone verification isn't hard to fake either - so next step everyone has to do post ident, give his blood group, scan his fingers and eyes and supply a perfect copy of his genitals ?!

Well I believe that this would get more people away from the site then it would have a real usage. Basically anything you come up with, will get outplayed at some point. Thats a neverending story/fight.

Today there might be a lot of spammbots and youre absolutly right, they make your threads less visible. I had the exact same opinion when I noticed them.

But this is as well just a short time this will work for them. U noticed that they get flagged pretty fast, and most likely soon there will be some better solution for this.

Also you shouldnd forget, that even some whales are using bot's to vote, so they might not like to lose them + they basically have the votingpower to decide in which direction it will go.

So all we can do is stay calm and maybe bite on our tongue here and there, well knowing that this gonna be worked out eventually.

I agree something must be done to make it more difficult to create fake account. I'm not sure your solution is the best but it might be a very good solution. I hope to see some response to this phenomena from @dan and @ned at some point in the future. Thank you @acassity
