There is a bunch of people out there who are shifting into this newer paradigm and would love steemit, but just haven´t heard about it yet.
That´s it. We need more noise! It seems that you and Randy @hilarski are on the same track today :-) He just posted about "brand awareness" - and in my opinion that is exactly what we need.
Steemit is what we make of it. It´s what we want it to become.
So YES, I am totally convinced that it can become an everybody´s place, no matter how crazy vs. normal or nerdy vs. mainstreamy its content creators may be.
In other words: there will be one day the trending page won´t be full of #steemit tags anymore :)
Good question! I feel like we collectively realize this is a new paradigm but I'm not sure exactly how to define it or whether we could even settle on a definition/label at this point. For me it has a lot to do with decentralization and the ability to create a community outside of the centralized establishments. For some it may just be the idea of getting paid to post and vote. But I recognize a fundamental difference in thinking between my Facebook friends and my new friends on Steemit. Do you recognize what I'm referring to as well... or have a better way of describing it?
I think it's likely there are a range of paradigms or frames of mind which make Steemit attractive to the people here now. We all seemed to have a single 'paradigm' of why Bitcoin was amazing only 3-4 years ago, but then it turned out there were two fundamentally different schools of thought which unfortunately tended to use the same language but meant different things.
In answer to your question, I don't think normal people will need a philosophical frame-shift to get on board with Steemit. Eventually they will get on it because everyone around them is getting on it, and they get money too anyway. I do however think that we should promote this shift in viewing the world, try to attract those who are amenable to it, and strengthen/define the philosophical underpinnings of "Steem as a Movement" just as there was "Bitcoin as a Movement" not long ago, but which didn't end as hoped.
Proudly crazy here too. Thank goodness corporations and advertising dollars don't sponsor everyone here or some of us might have been given a good spanking by now. ;)

Steemit is already well on its way to combine crazy and normal... taking something totally crazy and impossible to understand for 99% of the world (blockchain technology) and marrying it to a social blogging platform, which MOST people can understand... there's great beauty in that!
Personally, I don't think that the main appeal for Steemit, for most people at least, is the decentralization. Rather, it's the ability to make money from posting content. Therefore, Steemit will become more normal as people come from other platforms to post content.
