Is good content being lost on Steemit..

in #steemit-ideas8 years ago (edited)

It seems like the ONLY posts earning anything are the "Trending" posts..

I made a post yesterday talking about having a "Following" Tab on our home pages so that we have quick access to all of the people we follow, because once it's no longer New or Trending there's really no way to find this content..

I also have previously asked if Steemit will become more like Facebook or YouTube.. Even though it is looking more like Twitter, but I really think a Yotube style search would be benificial to the site and also more options for the people we follow.. What do y'all think?

Would these ideas help Steemit or complicate it.. What ideas do you have?

Sort:

It would be a good idea as all I am seeing are posts about steemit and making money and nothing about my interested subjects.

I'm right there with ya.. Look at my page you'll see the same on my music stuff sadly :(

The stuff on trending page largely starts out when several people with a lot of steem power vote on something. It continues to rise due the fact many people still vote on them (especially if they are still learning the platform) with the thought that voting on a big post might earn them curation rewards.

In fact the way to curate and win on curating is to stay in the NEW queue instead of trending and try to predict which things will be popular.

As more people gain steem power and it starts to spread out from the developer's and early adopters it will become more varied.

This is why it is important to NOT FLAG posts that don't do anything wrong because someone is making a lot. Those people are the ones most likely to start shifting it away form the way the core group tends to vote. When anyone wins, ultimately in the long run we all do.

It is truly a different environment and it takes some mental mindset changes.

I have a blog entry that is relevant to this at the moment and I've shared the link on a few topics like this. I am not going to put it here so people don't think I'm spamming. If you want to see it click on my name, and it's in my blog starts out as NOT A PONZI. I wrote about these topics.

AS to search.... more of that is coming. A lot of different developers are working on things. Keep your eyes on steemtools.com which is growing like wildfire. That is also why @xerox 's post did so well. The tools he made help with other people making tools a lot, and also made it possible to use steem EVEN when steemit.com itself is down.

Nice thanks for the info!

I'm excited to see where it goes, and how we will change Steemit to be supportive more of newcomers, but the tools are great. I know @blueorgy has made some stuff too like steemimg.com and the Steemit chat!

So I'm excited to see what else gets added :D

Yeah @blueorgy steemimg.com is listed on steemtools.com (which is just a web page to show all currently known tools for steem that people are making for steem)

Yes, this seems to be a huge issue. I have just posted a similar blog in regards to this.

There needs to be a system to repost of refresh your content. People spend a long time on great Articles and they are gone after an hour.

Some of this may be addressed by the fork coming on Tuesday. Payout it changing to 12 hours, and 30 days. This means posts could be found as hidden gems and be paid more in 30 days. At this time (until that change is implemented) there is really no benefit to vote for something AFTER the 24 payout occurs as that author receives nothing for it. I've found many great articles like 2 to 3 days after they were posted. This 30 day payout might fix that. :)

Obviously, good content is getting lost. It's just how it is.

I bet a Following tab is coming.

But for now, you can use SteemStats.com.

Nice thanks for the link :D

Theres no doubt that new content is added and immediatly lost in terms of topic diversity. The "How" and "Why" posts concerning Steemit are by far the most consistent fund raisers. Why? Because, more than our separate interests, what we all have in common is that we're fascinated with Steemit! Steemit also happens to be fascinated with Steemit - with good reason. Steemwhales can advertise by upvoting Steemit centered posts - with good reason. We, along with the whales, are commercializing Steemit befire any corporate players. I think the difference could be that its still genuine interest in the tech opp. They're paying us while we pay them. After that, its an internal currency value totem pole.

As a natural law, diversification reduces terminal risk as it reduces specialized performance. That applies to content focus as well. I think the cannon blast Steemit content will fizzle as they settle in for a more sustainable & diversified user base.

Yeezus emoji's coming soon

Well said!

Do you think I'm the future that the upvotes will be spread out more?

Its a joke. Im starting to get depressed about it. Hours and hours of work for 3 upvotes.. others getting 50k$ for 1 post lol. I do love steem but man......

Story of my life too man.. I'll go check your stuff out now brotha!
Even the old stuff ;D

Here we need the ability to create groups? I like the system of Google+ Circles, which unites people with the same interests and the content wich they produce, will be on view at the people who are really interested in it

Dang good idea @cousteau.. Instead of all of us just forced to always just see the posts of the successful people making all of the money that we are not :(

Also this platform is in BETA... they are still working on it. Tuesday there will be a couple of big changes in case you are not aware of it.

  1. Payouts will go from 24 hours to 12 hours. So the trending page should cycle faster. There will also be the possibility for additional payout in 30 days so unlike now, your posts can continue to earn over time. This might help with HIDDEN GEM type situations.

  2. There will be a limit on the amount of BLOG posts you can do in 24 hours before you start to penalize potential earnings. As I understand it this is 4-6. The idea here I guess is to reduce spam, and increase quality. You can still reply and comment on BLOG posts with no penalty.

So with this being BETA they are learning and they are trying new things. Last I looked we only had about 30,000 people using steemit.

Great news!
Thanks for the update :D

With the follow button being on the profile page I assume it is something they are working on.
I hoping to see a group function in the future and hoping we soon have the ability to add information to our profile pages,
