Double Your Presence! How To Use Your #TAGS To Gain Maximum Readers on Both ChainBB and Steemit

in #steemit-help7 years ago

I have been asked this in a few recent comments, so thought it a good idea to post a quick article.

Firstly, both Steemit and chainBB forum are User Interfaces (UIs) of the Steem blockchain - they are both a human-friendly way to interpret and interact with the blockchain. This is also true of all the other Steem Apps that are growing around the same blockchain.

So Steemit and chainBB are two different ways to interact with the same blockchain. This means that your articles appear on both platforms, your vote counts on both platforms and your comments appear on both. However, the way people navigate the two sites is slightly different, and I want to get to the issue of TAGS.

On Steemit, you are allowed up to 5 tags and your post is added to each of the 5 tag streams and can immediately be seen in the New posts streams. On chainBB you are also allowed the same 5 tags but the first tag in your list is very important: the first tag defines into which sub-forum your post will appear. On chainBB, each post only goes into one sub-forum.

So, think carefully about your very first tag. Remember, on Steemit the order of tags makes no difference, but on chainBB it is crucial to be in the best sub-forum most relevant to your subject matter.

For example, you write a great article on quantum mechanics and start writing your tags: "quantum" "mechanics" then maybe you add "quantum-mechanics" and "physics". This is not going to appear anywhere visible on the chainBB forum. The best tag to put first is "physics", then you can add the others that make the topic more specific. Your article does exist within chainBB - the URL of your post exists - but it will not be visible to a person browsing the forums unless that article has the appropriate first tag.

Try this out for your next article. Head over to chainBB and take a look at the existing forums. If you haven't used the site before you will need to login with your Steemit username and private posting key. Which forum looks the most relevant? Then look at the tags associated with that forum; you will see them at the top, just under that forum's title.

If you wish to post from within chainBB the editor will automatically add that forum's defining tag; you can then still add 4 more to make your total of five. Now you will be getting the same exposure as before within Steemit, but as a bonus you are getting double the exposure by being visible within chainBB forum!

If you go back to posting from Steemit, keep a list of "forum tags" or have a quick look at chainBB before posting. Once you've pressed that Post button, you cannot change your first tag.

Hope that helped, and please ask any questions.
