Your smartphone weakens your mental abilities

We all feel the same itching that drives us to check out the latest Facebook publications, flip some snaps, read the new Wattab messages, or even play only five more minutes of our favorite games on mobile. Our mental abilities, even if we do not respond to him.

The study, conducted by Adrian Ward and colleagues at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, measured the mental capacity of more than 700 smartphone users while performing various tasks.

Participants were asked to complete multiple tests that measured their cognitive abilities in order to measure how much information their brains could handle. Each of the respondents was randomly selected to place their smartphones either in their pockets or on the table they were sitting in or in a completely separate room.

The researchers noted that individuals who were asked to put their phones in a separate room outnumbered those who had their phones at their disposal, and that participants who had their phones in their pockets also outnumbered those whose phones were set before their eyes on the table in front of them.

The study pointed out that the mere presence of your smartphone at your fingertips can impede the effectiveness of your ability to process information and perform tasks, even if you do not use.

"It's not that the participants were distracted because they were receiving alerts on their phones, but just having their smartphones nearby was enough to reduce their cognitive capabilities," Ward said.

Last tip: If you have something you want to do, you might have to leave your phone in the drawer or anywhere else away from your sight or reach.

Interesting view points about using smartphones. I believe that staring at our phone for a long period of time everyday also damages our physical and mental health as well. Our eyes will be tired and more importantly our brain will be exhausted by looking at the phone for whole-day long. It's crucial for people to do more outdoor activities and put aside our phone in the right time!

I'm sure this is the case.
To function well mentally and physically we need to balance our time in front of the screen with time outdoors and engaging with people. We also need to reduce the amount of time we spend being mindlessly entertained and maximize the time and effort we put into critical thinking, and creativity...
We are obviously, rapidly losing the discapline it takes to balance these things.
Take me for example; I just spent 30 minutes scrolling and reading post titles without putting any real thought into what i was looking at... until I saw this post...

I'm gonna take a break now...
