Are Cell Phones Killing Us?

in #steemit-health7 years ago

Every since about 1996 cell phones have been a big part of everyday life. From being heavy and just able to make calls to light compact with the world at your fingertips. They changed the way we live forever. Was it for better or for worse?

Cell phones work by sending and receiving signals with radio frequency waves. These are the same waves used in microwaves and visible lights, which doesn't sound that harmful. Over time this waves can hurt us by causing brain damage or brain tumors. You can remember when televisions had had large antennas. The jobs of those antennas were to catch the radio frequency waves. They were safe with it only being turned on when it was used and no one was holding it up to their ears. Cell phones were not meant to be around us every second of every day, even fifteen minutes of exposure can show differences in your brain.

Cell phones are not necessarily bad but, more in the way we use them. In today's world, everybody has a one from rich to poor. We even give them to our children some as young as five walking around already addicted to the device. Some of us sleep with it right by our side then, in the day we have it right beside us again in our pocket. To prevent these effect would be something just as easy as just spending less time on our phones or just putting it up at night.

We are already all condemned to death by the waves

Oh for sure. That's the price we pay for untested technology. By untested, I mean, there were no active tests for long-term health when it was started. I have no doubt that these kinks would be worked out in the future. But, as of now, if we want to enjoy the luxury that cellphones provide, then we just have to live with its consequences.
