HOW TO HANDLE A NOISY CLASSROOM
Are you worry about the noise level in your classroom? Or do you struggle to get your students' attention at the start or during lessons?
If so, here are few ideas to try with the noisy classes.
Explain the Routine
In this tip, you need to emphasize the signal or the instruction of your choice for them to be followed everytime you will execute that signal.
Example:
"Whenever I raise my hand, I want you to stop what you're doing, look at me and be prepared to listen".
Noise Control
Don't allow noise to get out of control. If one students are very loud, you will to take extreme measures to get them to stop being noisy. You'll find it easier if you begin to control noise levels as soon as class begins.
Use an Authoritative Voice
If a rough class intimidates you, privately practice stating the following in an authoritative voice.
"My words are important. Students you need to listen to me".
Say it until you believe it. Then, take comfort after.
Give them a Score for Practicing
Giving them a score adds a touch of fun to the routine and also appeals to students' natural to compete. Having the class work towards a common goal or reward also builds community.
Model the Noise Level
Model the noise level that you want from your students. If you speak soflty, your students will follow your lead. If you shout, you will dramatically increase the noise level in your class because students will see this as permission for them to shout to.
