It is unfortunate that people feel the need to do this. I am new as well but have really just been observing while I try to figure out what this is all about. The hardest thing I have a time with is people posting links out to other articles. I may find it interesting but I'm not sure how much steem that level of effort actual deserves or if thats the type of content that is going to make this site great or just turn it into a reddit clone.

Right now I'm more interested in distribution and growing steemit. For me, a post needs to be original and interesting for me to vote on it. Quality and amount of effort aren't so important. But then again my vote isn't worth a lot yet. :)

I just joined and some of my posts are in a way re-purposed from my own blog. Is that generally okay?

Sure. It's a good idea to put a link on your blog back to your steemit posts or profile page. That way there is no question it is your content.

I've engage some relatively new users but some of them are risking doing comments like "upvoted, please upvote back" or "follow you, please follow back". I had been downvoted before even with an honest comment which could seem like from a bot if you remember and worked very hard to get back. I don't think many know the risk they are taking.

Yes, I think that's how we met. :) Today we have the slider so I don't think there will be that many heavy flags for new users that will be undeserved.

Yeah, I think many are neglecting to read the FAQ. They jump in and start treating steemit like facebook or reddit.

Thanks for this... I've got an Instagram account where I exercise some of my creative side and was wondering about using some of it's content here. After reading this post I may do so in the future and cite the source. The one thing I noticed being new here on Steemit right away is that this community needs to be treated with thought and respect. You're right, only one chance to make a first impression. Very cool that you've been here for awhile and are mining, I'm still learning about cryptos and have a long way to go. Upvoted and following. Hope things are going great for you!

When you do post from your Instagram, I'd just add a link to your steemit account in your profile. It's simple enough to look and see it is your content.

Thanks for the well wishes, things are looking up! :)

I want to upvote, but how do I know it's OC?...

That's a very good question! In all honesty, it is hard to tell just reading a single post. I've upvoted posts in the past only to have someone ping me on steemit.chat to tell me it was plagiarized or worse. As a minnow, your vote doesn't really affect someone's reputation or payout very much. So I say vote away until you power up and get the hang of it!

That's also why I don't do a lot of manual voting. I have a bot that follows a group of curators. I don't want my voting power to go to waste. They've been pretty good at weeding out the PLG and Scams.

When voting manually I vote mostly for those users I follow. If I find they are not posting OC I quit upvoting and sometimes quit following.

Thanks! That was very helpful info.

I must confess... when I am pooring my old profile/gallery work into my account and then I see people just lifting shit off wherever and not sourcing it makes my stomach churn. It makes me sad for other users that are really working hard. It makes me sad for those content creators whose content is is being put on the blockchain forever without any say in it. Listen all people have to do to see where the original came from is https://www.tineye.com/ and reverse image search and you can usually find the original creators work/contact info...If something seems a miss maybe comment on their social media that their work is on steem. I don't know... sorry for the rant. I have just seen some crazy shit this week on this subject. It just hurts man.

Rant away! It's tough for new users to get noticed when PLG is this high if they don't stand out.

It's so much easier to turn out 10 or more posts just copying and pasting what they find.

I'd much rather upvote an honest original comment or a picture of a favorite dog/cat/ferret no matter the quality!

Ok I shall rant on--- There are so many things one can create and do on this platform, it's a complete lost opportunity if you just copy and paste. This place gives people a voice. I reward/upvote/follow those that use the gift of their voice.

Yeah, I just joined like 2 days ago, and this is my first time seeing a post like this. I hope nobody ends up stealing my content. (ಥ﹏ಥ) Also thanks for the heads up. A lot of people should see this.

Thanks @patrice
For information, good writing
