After all these years on the internet, I really shouldn't be surprised that porn will show up wherever -- yet somehow I thought Steemit would escape that fate.
But this pedophile crap? Must not be allowed to stand; it is dead serious because that's precisely the kind thing that would give the opposition an excuse to shut us down (god forbid)
We must downvote this horrible content into oblivion wherever we find it. More than that, we need the devs to get involved.
It's good to see people taking action on problems like this and flagging those accounts, but can't we create some mechanism to combat this?
I have seen bots that look for well written comments and upvote them. If that is possible, it should be possible to create bots that look for this crap in a way.
Maybe the bot can look for a comment that the community should post as reaction to this crap, something like "flag this pedo" . And I don't know enough about delegating steem-power but can't we then all delegate some steem-power to such a bot to make it more powerful?
I'm just a newb here, but I believe in this community and I think there are smart enough people here who can figure something out like this, right?
There are certain ways I have of sorting data to find things. As soon as I find time I'm going to see if I can apply some of the techniques I've used in the past. I think with a little tweaking I may find a way to recognize some of it without having to actually see more than the text in the post. If that works I'll see what I can do about a bot.
in many ways,society (particulary Western) has become quite tolerant of many philosophies. I believe a philosophy is vile if it leads to the infringement of another person's freedom. It may seem patronising but I believe there is an obligation to protect the weak and defenseless. However I know there is a great deal of manipulation by the media of people's ideals for self enrichment. I certainly don't have the skills to consider all issues involved but I regard pedophilia as a particularly vile form of wickedness

I'm glad for any efforts to combat this. I'm still active on fb and recently have been getting some strange accounts asking to friend me - all with men and kids. One was a guy with all kinds of diaper photos??? This is new in the last month or so. I've just been blocking them all.
I have all the nsfw stuff blocked here so I see little that offends me on steemit. If you resteem - does that help the person? I'm new here and not quite following what your strategy is, but I will help if I can understand it.
It only helps them if someone decides it is something they want to see and follows the account @flagpediporn. My intention is to get users to flag anything they see resteemed on that account they don't agree with. All the hidden posts, negative reputation, and zero payouts should deter them.
Of course follows are public. If someone follows that account because they like that crap then they will be easy to find.
I don't recommend anyone who wants to combat this follow the account. Just bookmark it and check in to flag.

I thought of that. Follows are public. If they are posting the same content... the easier to identify and flag this type of content.
I'm hoping if this becomes a problem that Steemit inc who hosts the images here will provide a way to report the images and have them removed.
Many image hosting providers have a way to report and remove. I will check into those as they pop up.
I'm just grateful the images are not a part of the blockchain and can be taken down with some effort.
