Introducing Direct Sign-up (beta) in Steemhunt

Today we finally roll out our first beta trial to provide direct sign-up interface via Steemhunt. This means that new users who want to sign-up for Steemhunt will no longer be forwarded to Steemit.

1. Why this Matters

Since we started actively promoting Steemhunt’s content outside of Steemit with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and the social share feature, we have over 5K unique non-Steemian visitors per day. However, it has been very difficult to attract them to sign-up because they could only sign up via Steemit (and they had to wait for 1-2 weeks for the verification). We could make our own sign-up interface, but then we would have to pay three STEEM per new sign-up, which was not a scalable or sustainable method for us.

Now Steem dApp is able to claim account creations by using the RC (Resource Credit) since the HF20. This is a great opportunity for Steem dApps to actively boost their new user sign-ups by creating their own interface.

2. Goal of our Beta Trial

This new sign-up interface is beta launched. During the beta period, we will analyse the criteria so that we can boost up the new user sign-up directly to Steemhunt.

1. Optimise account creation claims to find scalable operations
2. Monitor the bounce rate and stability of the creation of new accounts
3. Develop algorithms/interfaces to prevent from abusing attempts

Since our daily pool for this beta is limited, please DO NOT MAKE your own alternative accounts by using our system. If we find any hunters who have made alt accounts, attempted circle voting or doubled up the airdrop rewards, all their accounts will be PERMANENTLY BLACKLISTED.

3. How to Sign-up via Steemhunt

_1. Choose your username. This account will automatically be connected to your Steemit username.

_2. Verify your mobile number. This step is required to prevent the generation of multiple alt accounts from a single user.

_3. Save your private key (password) safely. This will be used to login to your Steemit/SteemConnect.

4. Next Step: Part 1 - Interfaces to Limit Abusing Attempts

Although this feature is designed to promote an influx of new users via Steemhunt, we are aware that there are a few possibilities for abusers to utilise it. So, we are launching this as a beta version, and we have prepared internal data collections to develop interfaces to reduce abuse attempts. The phone number verification is already built into the new sign-up system and we will have more algorithm-based tools ready soon.

5. Next Step: Part 2 - New User Onboarding Interface

After we perform the test/monitoring of our beta sign-up interface, we will launch the regular version with improved new user onboarding interface. Since there may be many non-crypto users signing-up via Steemhunt, we need to build a simple but fully understandable onboarding interface that makes it easy to understand the Steem community and token economy, and can transfer them to other Steem dApps.
