Based on videos I have seen, blood chunks can break apart during typical blood clot removal. This can cause further damage by clogging smaller arteries. This MegaVac device addresses that problem.

When a blood clot forms, the MegaVac catheter is guided through the artery to the clot. It expands to temporarily block blood flow in the artery. This is to prevent blood from pushing chunks of the clot further and not to damage the artery even more. The thrombo wire is then inserted into the catheter all the way through the clot. When it is beyond the clot, it deploys, i.e. expands, and then is retracted to pull the clot into a funnel and through the catheter. Once the clot is removed, the catheter is undeployed to restore regular blood flow.

This device can prevent permanent heart damage and reduce severity of heart attack.
