Steemhunt - Tips to thrive on the platform

In a post yesterday, I had shared how all my steemit activity lately has been on steemhunt and actifit. Of the two, the most rewarding platform for those looking to increase their sp is steemhunt. Therefore I thought I will share my strategy of posting/finding hunts and mistakes to avoid to get steemhunt upvote and increase hunt token earnings. Now, I am not the oldest or greatest hunter on steemhunt, so please take the tips with a pinch of salt. However, I do get by and think I am fairly successful at finding hunts. Also, I do think knowledge only increases through sharing. So if you have a tip for me, please let me know in comments below.

First and foremost, it is important to know SH posting guidelines -

Steemhunt generally covers unique IT or hardware products, including:

2-1. Web services
2-2. Mobile apps
2-3. API, IT solutions, bots, open sources or other types of software
2-4. Tech gadgets, hardware, IoT/connected/wearable devices
2-5. Games
2-6. Innovative Engineering/Design Products (It may cover non-tech products that have been invented based on high-level engineering/design approach to solve a major problem)

Full details can be found here -
https://github.com/Steemhunt/web/blob/master/POSTING_GUIDELINES.md

Given that steemhunt is fairly old now, finding a hunt can be quite daunting. On the discord channel, you will often find people making appeals against delists. So when you post a hunt, it is approved by a moderator if it meets the criteria of posting guidelines, if it doesn't - it's delisted. Also, some effort and time will go into finding a hunt, so a delist can be quite disheartening.

To find a unique hunt, think about topics that appeal to you. If you simply go to PG Mag or Android Authority or something similar, odds are that all products from these sites would have already been hunted. So you're wasting time tbh. You can also keep hunting generic products like some chinese mobile phone which is another iphone rip-off but i do not think that it will receive enough upvotes from the community. So again, the hunt has to be cool, unique and interesting for the community and influencers to upvote it. Influencers are hunters that have been given a special role by sh team for 3 weeks to upvote underrated hunts, such that they can move up in the ranking of daily hunts and be noticed by the community. I was an influencer at one point, you can be too. Do some community service and the role also comes with benefits.

As I was saying, think about topics that appeal to you - gaming/apps/web services/product design/ web services. If you have an engineering background, for example, then engineering itself has many domains. Odds may actually favour you and you may be able to hunt a cool innovation using that. Anyway, engineering innovations also run another risk that I will explain later.

Once you've identified what you like, try and hunt about innovations in that space and find cool unique products that use that innovation. Now, its not just what you like, it should also be a product that others like. You need upvotes to get the ultimate mother of all upvotes - sh upvote.

Once you've identified the product, make sure you also have the official product page. Random cnn/amazon/blog links are not acceptable. If you can't find the official product page, leave the hunt and find another one.

Now if you've looked at the PG, you can also see that there is a category as follows -

2-6. Innovative Engineering/Design Products (It may cover non-tech products that have been invented based on high-level engineering/design approach to solve a major problem)

This is the trickiest. There was a time when I used to hunt product in this category. Being an engineer, I not only found this area interesting but also thought it would be appreciated by others. However, here's the thing. Most products you hunt in this category will be an industrial level solution. While nothing is wrong with that, the hunt is pretty useless from the point of what steemhunt is all about - finding cool products that get everyone interested and products that people are tempted to buy. An industrial solution is not just financially out of reach for a retail customer, but also pretty much useless for an individual. Moreover, this is a grey area. There is a 50-50 chance your hunt gets approved or delisted. If it gets delisted, trust me, it will not feel good. You will start feeling cheated because another industrial solution got approved, while yours wasn't and then you will develop a negative outlook, even when what actually happened was that your hunt did not meet PG. My tip is to avoid that frustration. Stick to consumer products - apps, games, aspirational design products to name a few categories. Medical devices and sustainability oriented products are also quite popular but focus on what a retail consumer can buy.

Now, besides getting more steem and hunt, there is also another benefit - learning about cool new innovations. This has also been something that I have thoroughly enjoyed about my experience on steemhunt. Lastly, if you found the above tips useful, here is another way to learn about top products from every day. Install the steemhunt chrome extension -
