"LaTex is an open source document preparation software" LaTex allows users a high quality typesetting which is designed to suit with technical and scientific documentation. It is often used for medium-to-large documentation.
LaTex is not a word processing software. Instead, it allows authors to focus on the righ content rather than the formatting of the document.
Furthermore, LaTex features variety of typesetting journal articles, technical reports, books and slide presentation. It also allows you to control over large document which contains sections, cross-reference, tables and figures. User can also put complex mathematical formula. Lastly, there are more to LaTex than what has been mentioned here.
