I was reading an article earlier today recapping the recent World Cup in Russia. To my surprise I found out that a new football was unveiled, the first time in FIFA history.
The Telstar Mechta saw its first action in the group knockout stage of the recent World Cup. What makes this new Footbal special comared to previous models is that it is embedded with a NFC chip allowing consumers to interact in real time with the ball using their smart devices.
The chip enables consumers to interact with the ball using a smartphone. Upon interaction, each ball generates a unique identifier, unlocking exclusive content and information for the user.
The ball comes with many of the other qualities that you come to expect of a top notch football, such as a seamless surface and very low water absorption. The Telstar Mechta 18 is available for purchase in the Adidas store for $83.
