This is a tiniest yet powerful tool that I cannot live without on a PC. I can't remember how many times this tool has saved for me everytime I want to find something on my file system but happened to merely remember a fraction of the name while totally forgot the exact location.

When I want to locate something quickly, I use the custom hotkey Shift+Ctrl+F to summon Everything which it appears on top immediately, I then type whatever I want to search. The whole process normally cost less than 3 seconds.

Everything does one thing only and does it best without any competition: Find everything on your computer and find it immediately!

  • Locate all the files or folders so fast the result generated and changed upon every single character you type in the searching column.
  • Even able to search file contents with advanced search functions enabled.
  • So friendly that it just consumes 14MB of RAM and less than 9MB of disk space(on fresh installed Windows 10)
  • No bloatware, malware, or spyware.
  • Clean and simple UI.
  • Free and without ads.

    I actually used something similar to this on windows which is called Wox. Wox is almost similar to Everything, but I feels like there is still a little bit buggy and heavy when it being loaded at first.

    Since I am on 3 operating system most of the time (Mac, Windows, Linux Mint), I always search for tools that exist in Mac on both Linux and Windows. Wox actually is a clone of Alfred from Mac, one cool thing about it is when you call the Run (Start + R), it actually used Wox interface instead of the default Run interface.

    Chrcked that out, seems like a tool with more features. Ya maybe the drawback of this Everything is theri availability on Windows only. Guess it is hard to make it cross platform as the indexing algorithm will be totally different.
