SmartMixer has an audio interface for monitoring input signals. It also have phantom power and an amplifier for professional video and audio production.

The interface features one mini XLR input for balanced microphones, and two microphone/line inputs for use with the included condenser microphones, or with your own user-supplied microphone. A volume control knob and level meter allow easy adjustment of the input level, while a headphone monitor output allows you to monitor the input and playback signal.

The 'Saramonic SmartMixer' looks like a very useful device which allows you to record high quality stereo audio through the 3.5 mm jack on your smartphone or camera.
It is able to provide 48v phantom power if needed and has two 3.5mm line in connectors as well as a mini XLR connector for balanced microphone input. A standard XLR adapter cable is included, in the box.
The monitor function is a big bonus too which enables you to hear the audio captured perfectly, on the fly.
I like the fact that it comes with a hot shoe mount which makes it a breeze to use with your DSLR.
Overall, this seems to be a nice tool to capture great sounds with and it is pretty good value too, at only $149.95/£115.

When recording video, as many do on mobile phones, audio is often overlooked, with people just settling for the phone's built-in audio.
But audio in a video is every bit as important as the visuals - perhaps even more so. People will forgive poor visual quality (if the story is there), but bad audio is very jarring and harder to forgive.
