RE: GrapheneOS - Open source mobile OS focused on privacy and security

in #steemhunt5 years ago (edited)

What do you mean with “compatible with Android”? How can root level operating systems be compatible, “buddy”.

What you truly meant is “compatible with Android Apps” — which takes any privacy aspect away, unless they are offered on F-droid because going “privacy focused” and then installing the Play store...

Hi @fknmayhem,
Thank You for your curiosity as this OS is still in the Early stage and it right now they have releases it for Pixel Phones by Google. And Compatible with Android means this OS will be able to run Android apps and it will have additional Security feature. it is still in development phase and as it is Open-source project which is looking for even more funding to continue their Development.

Yes, I did check out the site. Check my most recent hunt and you will see that it is right down my alley.

Trust me when I tell you there's no way to "additional security feature" for Android apps if you want to cover them all.

Only the F-Droid store offers that by being entirely open-source focused. All other alternative app stores have trackers and even an own app store will still bring all Adwords ads bloatware in apps unless they go "compatible with clean Android apps only" mode.

Their plan to move away from Android core may even not be compatible with Android apps (from Play) default license.

Bonus: no, they are not looking for additional funding [right now]. They actually got funded and relaunched under a new brand. They are now a not-for-profit, a funded one.
