Whatsapp and Telegram are encrypted instant messengers but the metadata they produce are stored in their servers and not encrypted. By metadata even though your messages are encrypted it is known who you talk to when and what time and date. These are huge informations and should be private.
Nextcloud company as you may heard their services as cloud storing and in recent months as they opened their own DNS servers (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) freely to anyone who want to get fast and private internet access. They alsdevelope a messenger app which also integrated with their own services.
It is fully Open Source and use end to end encryption. Not only that to avoid metadata, you can use your own server for your communication so that metadata will stay in your own device.
HD voice and video talk, screen sharing, individual and group calls and cross platform support are just few features it has.

Great application. Have a Nextcloud server set up for work and use Talk for video conference. Amazing, free and secure.
