They suppose that

Although tropical regions currently account for less than 30% of the current global energy demand, the tropics will become the most significant energy market within the next 20 years

This solution can work well in the tropical regions - the temperature difference of the deep sea water and surface water is rather big (near 20°C)
And it is this temperature difference what drives the Bluerise system to generate energy

One of the main advantage is that it can work day and night all the year round thus we don't need a storage of energy.
Go to http://www.bluerise.nl/aboutbluerise/ for more details

They said in the video below that

We have built and tested demonstration systems ..

which as far as I understand means that they have created a prototype already

Hi, @ alexbiojs, super useful hunt.
Oceans occupy the largest surface of the earth and are thus most exposed to solar energy.
Surface is warming and in the depth, water there is low temperature.
This fact is used in heat engines for power generation.
This is a never-ending source of energy.
And an excellent idea, to use her on this way.

This is a great innovation from bluerise.nl. There, are many countries where there is a shortage of electricity i.e. electricity isn't available 24x7 and there are frequent disconnections due to non availability of electricity. I, strongly believe if this innovation from bluerise.nl on making energy i.e. electricity from natural temperature difference in oceans will go along way in supporting many underdeveloped countries to generate electricity all day round. Great Hunt.

Nice Feature: it can work day and night all the year round thus we don't need a storage of energy

This is quite smart and interesting idea to get energy from the temperature difference of the surface water and deep seaa water, if it works it will be great eco friendly energy source.

This is an environmentally friendly way of producing energy. Fossil fuels such as nuclear power and fire power generate CO2 and destroy the environment. I hope that many of these methods of producing eco-friendly energy are used.

First time hearing of something like this. Great one. An excellent way to produce energy. The temperature difference will be able to produce energy, but for big quantities the facilities will need to be huge. But running day and night, producing base energy can be sustainable long term.

What an interesting way to harvest energy. The idea that we can generate energy just by using the difference between deep seawater and surface water temperatures is very sustainable. It will interesting to see how countries in the tropics can take advantage of this technology to improve their economy.

Great way to use this system to power electricity to store energy. Great what technology does these days. Cool hunt.

This must be the best! We currently dont have any ocean thermal energy powered electricity at the moment and this one will solve the problem. Congrats!
