Today we will get to know on one of the very most important test before marriage amongst two peoples. This tests are important to secure the life of the our unborn kids and make sure they have a normal life like other kids.
What are we talking about today?
Well that’s *GENOTYPE, each and everyone of us here have a Genotype of which we inherited from our parents and our parents inherited from their parents and so on.
Different Genotypes includes;
AA, AS, SS, and the rare ones like AC, SC.
How can I know my Genotype?
This test is easily carried out in a laboratory by trained scientists, usually blood sample is required for this test and the result can be read in 30mins-1hr.
Why do I need to do this test before marriage?
Well, not only you do you need to it before marriage, but you and your partner needs to know if you are both compatible and can be able to produce children who won’t suffer sickle cell disease( like this is a very bad disease and I wouldn’t wish anyone to experience the pains that comes with it😢)
What Genotype combinations is safe?
Using the genotypes which are popular, below is the compatibility that can go.
AA vS AA
AA vS AS
AA vS SS ( this is not usually advised tho).
Someone with AS genotype of course should not marry someone with AS too, to avoid SS babies (sickle cell)
Now you may be wondering what sickle cell disease is, well, this is a disease in which there is low (very low) oxygen in the body due to the way the red blood cells are( they are not in normal shape). So who would want to suffer a child or someone just because of a mistake that could have been corrected ? I guess no one.
The world today is still battling sickle cell and my country Nigeria is not left behind, but then if the masses is being educated on the dangers of not doing a genotype test before marriage, it is a situation we can handle and control.
What if I and my partner have already made good plans to Marry and found that we ain’t compatible?
Prevention is better than cure we all know, do not take the chances unless maybe you want to adopt a child but don’t go ahead to marry someone you know is not compatible with you when it comes to Genotype.😊
