#STEEMGIGS: (steem secrets) — Tips to have sustained success on Steemit - 01
Today’s topic is an aspect of high importance for every steemian here. Influence is key to having a successful and seamless ride on Steemit. Do you feel discouraged because earnings on your posts aren’t yielding good pay-outs? Tired of earning in cents whilst a host of other steemians are doing three (3) to four (4) figures on pay-outs? It’s high time you learned empirical techniques to have lasting success on steemit, this by default should in turn increase your earnings on steemit.
N.B: Earnings/Large payouts are only effects of a successful steem account and not a direct measure of a successful steem ride becuase different accounts have different goals and targets.
Like I do say, these are neither laws nor rules, these are only techniques learnt by observing and applying the precepts of influential/successful people on Steemit. Like I did mention in one of my recent posts, Success is the application of revealed principles and means. It behooves you to take a hold of these principles and means and apply them.
- FOLLOW – MINNOWS, DOLPHINS & WHALES – be on the lookout for people (Minnows, Dolphins & Whales) of like minds. You’ll sure know them by doing a quick scan through their profile to know and understand their value system and see if yours and theirs are in tandem. In case you don’t understand the term Minnows, Dolphins and Whales, these are basically classes of steemit users.
- GENUINELY ENGAGE/INTERACT – interaction and engagement cannot be overemphasized when it comes to the use of Steemit. By my understanding, Steemit stands for genuineness, Steemit stands for originality, Steemit stands for real interaction, therefore, it behooves you to genuinely engage. You engage by posting, not just to earn upvotes, but to add value to the community. You engage by commenting on posts, not just to get the attention of “the whale” or the author of the post, but to make meaningful contribution. Replying comments to your own posts where necessary is another art I’ll strongly recommend. Do you know that by just commenting alone you earn a share of 25% of rewards on a post? Oh sure! Engage – upvote, comment, reply comments, and resteem where necessary.
N.B: It’s unwise to spam people’s comment boxes with messages soliciting for upvotes. You come across as desperate and cheap when you do so. Now, it’s not wrong to ask for upvotes, but spamming isn’t a polite approach. If you must ask for upvote(s), do it politely, genuinely and for a worthy cause.
- PARTICIPATE IN CONTESTS - the opportunities on the steem blockchain are endless. Contests is one among dozens of opportunities you'll find here. Asides the fact that contests allow you to earn "free money", you get the opportunity to be known by other Steemians. You get the opportunity to put yourself out there, you get the opportunity to market yourself and your brand. Even if you don't get to win, you've earned some “influence-points” (so to speak) and reputation.
- QUALITATIVE CONTENTS ONLY - this cannot be overemphasized. Your content is a reflection of you, so you must do your best to dress it like you dress up when you want to turn up for an event. Asides dressing your posts, the content should breathe, there should be some elements of direction and value in your posts, people should read your posts and be eager to see your other posts. You see, it's all about marketing and it behooves you to bring in your "A-game". The easiest way through is to check out successful blogs here and learn their approach. There are tons of amazing blogs here to learn from. Steemit is replete with quality in all ramifications and all works of life.
- TAKE ADVANTAGE OF RELEVANT TAGS - the hashtags attached to your posts determines its visibility. You have to use tags relevant to your content so that people can find it using the tags in the search space. Tags are the easiest ways to see categorised contents here. The Steem space even makes it simple to search for various topics using the tags. However, some tags are more popular, some tags gets you upvotes by default (e.g, steem-gigs, "busy" "wafrica" "artzone", etc), some tags are community based (e.g, steemph, stach, genesis-project, naijaboost, etc), some tags are location based (e.g, nigeria, philippines, africa, etc). With this in mind, it is wise to spread your tags across all aspects of relevance to your post - relevance by content, topic of discussion, location, community, and so on.
Thanks for taking out time to read this blog. Do your best to share your views in the comment boxes below. Your upvotes will be well appreciated as well. Also, do listen for my next post on this series.

HI @marpemusic. I do completely agree with your tips. In fact, I think that using common sense, interacting with people who have something in common with you, (We shouldn't forget that this is a social network) and making good quality content should be enough to be have success in this community.
Cheers!
Yes @olbrich. I like the fact that you called it "common sense". Truth is, one cannot fit in to every kind of subject matter. Some people, in the bid to get upvotes comment passively on posts, at the end they don't contribute meaningfully to the subject matter, this, you'll trace to how their following was built. Like you said, interacting with people that have something in common with you is key. Engaging with people of like minds. This cannot be overemphasized:
Thanks a million for your contribution to this topic.
Hi @marpemusic Your steemgig-post as been included in our daily featured post. As part of being featured you are given the chance to recommend to us other steem blog-post that you think should be included in our daily post. Please include a short explanation why you think it should be included. Post need not be of exceptional quality but should have some sort of value contributed to the steem community; a simple reason that a post resonates strongly with what you feel or beliefs that you adhere to.
