New Year Brings New Ideas

With the new year looming and @runridefly behind most of us to see the new year starting! I need your Help! I'm looking for positive ideas or things we can do to get others more involved here on SteemIt!

Being a community, being we want to see SteemIt succeed, I'm looking for ideas and or suggestions that we can start working on that will increase our user base. All ideas will be taken into consideration. Anyone can try the ideas that are suggested here.

Need your Ideas

Looking for a strategy, a plan or a course of action that we can take here on SteemIt to help encourage others, and keep others from simply leaving. There are several users who are active but are loosing faith as no matter how hard they work the average payout they are receiving has simply been under $1. These members are here, and we need to keep them.

Lets see what kinds of ideas, competitions, anything that will work at increasing the number of active users. All your ideas will be taken into consideration, and anyone can try these ideas out.

How your ideas will be seen

You can post your ideas here as a reply. Or if you come up with a great idea you can use the tag steemit-ideas as your first tag like this: steemit-ideas then yourMainTag, then theRestOfTheTags. Ex: steemit-ideas cooking steemit. Lets get the ideas rolling, I will be watching for posts, and testing out ideas that are presented.

Thank you for reading

And Please don't forget to upvote, follow, and resteem, Also leave your replies here or in your own post. Looking forward to the new ideas.

I see retention as being critically important. The word gets out, but is it being countered by people who say, "I tried that once, it doesn't work"? That one comment, that one lost member, can do more damage than years of recruiting can fix.

Engage the newcomers, tip them, resteem their posts, show them ways to improve their posts. A couple of whales might take turns finding and voting up their posts so they get noticed.

And of course, SteemTrail can really promote a newcomers post if established people join in, join up, follow the trails in Steeman, and then curate posts.

I think those are very great points to remember. Thank you.

Retention is definitely an issue.
I honestly believe that if a large group of us actually "adopted" a newbie it would be far more helpful than the curation trails because it would be one on one interaction/guidance/mentorship. The "Big Brother/Big Sister" can help promote that new person using their influence/reputation to build a solid foundation.

I do believe the curation trails have great intentions but it's like a comet: a bright flash and then it's gone. Newbies love seeing their post get attention and making money (as do all of us), but the curation trails cannot keep visiting the same people. Without being comfortable or established on the platform, the quick hi and bye of a curation trail (and it's associated funds) may feel like abandonment when a newbie's sophomore posts earn next to nothing.

Curie does that because of their policy, but most curation trails (On Steemtrail) continue to provide promotion based on merit.

I don't think we need to do anything at all really. When busy.org is released as well as an instagram version of steem etc people will start flocking to steem platforms because they will make money. Word will start spreading rapidly. The free market is all steem needs.

True, but we need to keep the users we have now as well, or at least keep them active.

I don't see any way to without making a lot of changes to either steemit to give it more features like reddit or creating other platforms. The only thing that will keep old users and bring new ones is new features and platforms. I don't think we need to worry about the short term or long term. Either busy or something else will make steem explode. Even if no other platforms are ever created and steemit.com is the only platform I would still expect steem to be successful at some point, maybe it would take a lot longer but I think it is a question of when not if. This site and the currency works and the world population will not ignore free money. People will not just give up on steemit.com when most people derp around on other blogging sites for free anyway. When the younger generation gets old enough to use computers they will understand how computers work and will immediately switch to platforms that make money. Kids today are not like our retarded parents that can't figure out how to login to facebook let alone make a bitcoin wallet. Steem will succeed period.

I think your right, I'm just hoping to keep the ones making less Than $1 here, and motivate them to keep up the work they are doing.

Indeed, but I just think there's really nothing we can do at the moment to help the short term other than get the devs to add some stuff to make this site more like reddit or some sort of cross with imgur or whatever.

We great suggetion, lets see where it will go. Road map should be out soon I hope.

This post has been ranked within the top 80 most undervalued posts in the first half of Jan 01. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $4.05 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

See the full rankings and details in The Daily Tribune: Jan 01 - Part I. You can also read about some of our methodology, data analysis and technical details in our initial post.

Speaking as a newbie, I don't see any need to do anything that isn't already being done...i.e. slow, steady improvement in the platform. I have several interests, and have posted articles dealing with several of them. In my case, a sourdough recipe did well, as did my introduction, but my political commentaries (conservative, like Ghengis Kahn) all fall flat. From this, I conclude sourdough matters to enough Steemers to make it worthwhile, but conservative American politics apparently bore the hell out of everyone. While I may be old, I'm not stupid, so you're going to see more sourdough and less Ghengis Kahn. The free market is alive and well on Steem.

That works, I and thank you for your thoughts. I know a few people who don't like the work they put in for not much payouts, and also end with very few votes. Some of these people may not have as broad of interests like you or me, I been here almost 2 months and thanks to encouragement I have received for 2 people here it has really helped keep me motivated to continue. Just wanted to find ways to try helping those people stick it out long term.

I was really glad to see this post and your concerns, that are heartfelt by you and many of us -- I am one of those people.

That is part of why I did this, hoping things would help others. Also just made my rep of 61 prior to the new years Yes great day to be on SteemIt, a level up! Kind of like a mushroom on Super Mario!

That was a really quick 60 and 61 for you, that is amazing. Like really good!

Thanks, been more active with better ideas recently

Hey there buddy. I had to pick one of your 3 posts today to make my HNY comment to you on so this is the one.

I am just dropping by to say I am thinking of you at this time and thanks for the support on here and friendship.

I hope you have a good 2017. I wish I had more ideas. I was thinking of some ideas today based on my PM's with you and trying to not feel bummed out but it was your msgs this week that kept me going and I shared that one other place with you.

GBY and I hope you have a great year dude, most sincerely

Glad it has helped your confidence here. Just keep with it, we will see things improving. Today was a big day, I also got to post once a day for the challenge I hop you do it as well, started a day early as well.

My 4th and last post of the day is going up in a few mins. A 2 in 1 post and will include this, which nobody cares about us in Canada anyways lol

keep posting may not be enough Canadians here yet, but they will come and appreciate that some one has these post

My personal long term plan is to introduce new users to steem through a strategy game called steemstars which I am developing but I am still looking for other developers to work with me. My theory is that if I can develop steemstars into an active userbase I can gradually introduce users to steem through it. I also regularly speak with people about steem irl because word of mouth is still the most powerful form of advertisement.

That does seem like a great plan, I know some basic coding so I might be able to help in the New Year.

Awesome man! thatd be great!
