Dear @DtubeDaily on @Dtube #172 // well that was an interesting remote steemfest experience compared to being there.

in #steemfest5 years ago (edited)

i spent most of the last few days watching steemfest 3 by live stream - it's actually the first time i've managed to do that. the first steemfast i managed to watch all the VODS after the fact, i'd only been on the platform about a month back then and a year later me and @dayleeo went to the incredible steemfest 2. i'm glad we pushed and made that happen, missed not seeing people that i met last year that's straight facts but i guess i've just had my head down in MOD life mode.

and for the most part that's not been all that enjoyable if i'm honest.

and that's when it kinda hit me and i'll probably go into more in the vlog (so watch that) while it would have been great to meet everyone at the event again, chat and drink and listen to conversations, eat polish sausage and generally just hang out i did'nt feel that i was ready to try and keep the 'steemfest' personal dream going -- the truth we just have too much going on for me to be present and correct like i'd like to be.

building on top of such a sublime last steemfest would have been impossible i thought -- the weather, the people, the food, the organization of the event, me and dayle together for our first holiday, trip, hotel away, it was a big deal ya know, it was a perfect life memory moment, i certainly have to feel like all the things are gonna align -- with all the background things going on, that was never going to happen this year and i was kidding myself it would.

we did try, but in the end the cost of the tickets, the fact that we did'nt want to expect or compete for another ticket (we won one free ticket last year) and i promised myself i'd try and buy a bigger ticket instead of a minnow, everything got away from us when the requirements kept coming up that i'd need funds for a flight stateside first before dayle came back here -- the numbers did'nt work.

as much as i really wanted to speak at the event this year about steemhunt (translated gush) about what's gonna potentially happen with steemhunt over the coming year it ended up that some of the mods and team eventually decided that they were gonna go anyway, so everything was covered, the main reason i put my name down and contacted roeland at the time when it first was mentioned was that at that moment, we were ready to go, we had the hotel booked, same day.

maybe it's all the back and forth with visa stuff, maybe it's trying to fund a trip stateside to see dayle this christmas time and a fresh start together early next year -- i don't know really. Maybe it's the fact that it was not in sunny weather, that things did'nt just gel together like before, also, i know a small part is that i've not got any further on my little apps, i really wanna make that little app(s) and tell you all about it, super stealth like, i wanted that moment to be perfect. .. not rushed.

moreso than ever the way to interface with the blockchain are getting easier. to make something, even if it's a shell of an MVP are easy to do these days, but yet, i've still not done it. Maybe i've been concentrating on the wrong things or have just had terrible concentration. It's all been a lot and on top of that the urgency to get to meet and see, hug dayles grandmother at the ripe age of ninty something is important for me and important for her.

anyway, this was supposed to be a reflections piece so let me get to that.

going to steemfest and watching steemfest are totally, utterly, different universes apart. the energy of the meet and greets, the little groups you form, the people you like being around, the energy they bring to a get together, the things you talk about, the plans you make, the ideals you form around, the hugs you share and the acknowledgement you give to another human cannot be felt through a live stream.

that being said, i did spend most of the day watching the twin livestreams and i have to say on the whole they did a fantastic job, i'd love to expand on that whole live streaming experience next year because i think a lot more can be done to really cement home all these incredible people, i'm sure lots of people will be writing after the event (it's a lot of drinking trust me) instead of a day to day basic but i guess habits of being in 'event' mode die hard for me because i love doing that so much when i'm 'conference' mode.

watching today i could see the passion still for the platform -- i felt the ned and anarchy bit was a little strange, a little off, not sure why i felt that, did not feel like the usual Q&A that they do, ned seemed different with his body language from last year and i'm really wondering if this new company 'destiny' is a complete departure or just something 'sustainable' and more 'business' like to maybe be a company that builds the whole full service package for an SMT solution, that would make sense to me, something was a little different there for me, can't put my finger on.

remember, i'm watching this through a live stream so things often appear different due to not really feeling the mood of the room, setting etc, just seemed a little -- let's say distant.

then we saw a brilliant speech from @aggroed, like super super complete, through, brilliant brilliant from there to here story delivered with compassion and intent, i was really impressed with what he had to say and obviously what he's achieved with steem monsters together with his team, incredibly to think that was only april and this is where it's at -- so much hard work, gotta give props to him, absolutely brilliant presentation too.

the lady who presented @bitshares was amazing as well, i'd really love to learn about that platform as well because it seems it's got a lot more going for it than i had first considered and their presentation was first class as well.

we ended up with the first wave of dapps on the steem blockchain as well, tomorrow is gonna be the @steemfest moment so i'm excited for that too because i know @project7 will do an incredible presentation and it will be great for everyone to see how much work has gone into our little nimble team in the last five months, i guess in some ways we had our own steemmonster moments!

overall just lots of enhancements and improvements across the board on the steem blockchain, lots of people showing off new frontends, new ways of discovering, just nipping and cleaning up and making things more approachable for when the masses do realise just what's happened to centralized platforms and what they could be taking part of instead.
