The start of the rest: We take Steem forward

in #steemfest5 years ago

Day one of presentations has kicked off with @roelandp taking the stage in a flaming ensemble (flames are so hot right now) and welcoming all attendees to SteemFest3.

There is a full line-up of presentations ahead and a lot if information to come and it was good to listen to what @ned has to say about how sees the immediate future of Steem.

When asked about the biggest innovations in the blockchain industry he broke it down to 3 points, Bitcoin which introduced sovereign value, Ethereum that brought the ability to raise capital, and Steem which brings distribution of value to the sphere.

This distribution layer is what will be able to take the other two components and connect them to the greater marketplace, but it requires channels in order to connect value to people's lives. This becomes the core focus for the next 1-2 years according to @ned.

As I have said earlier, Steemit.com is not going to be a focus for the future and it was confirmed as now being in "maintenance mode". This is a good approach as it forces front end innovation and will slowly push user reliance across to the applications.

Applications are going to be the real distributors of the future and the way users can adopt and embrace a future of blockchain and crypto. This has been mentioned many times before of course by myself and others but people really should start taking the opportunity of applications seriously, this includes the devs in their UI and UX design. The goal is to close and reduce as many gaps and steps in experience to lower the barrier of entry for consumers.

@aggroed's presentation that followed went on to show how they are part of reducing barriers. One of the benefits of phasing out steemit.com is that it reduces the focus on the need to be a blogger which means a greater inclusion rate as not everyone is a writer.

The application layers to come, which throws @ned's own Destiny project into the competition pool, means that there is going to be increasing experimentation across decentralized teams to find the right blend for the targeted audience. In time, this will create not only much smoother onboarding but a much more compelling and valuable consumer experience.

As @aggroed said, at this point the best thing for users to do is to build. Build apps, communities, networks and of course relationships. @techslut in her @utopian-io presentation mentioned more of the same and repeated something often said, money is not everything, community is.

@llfarms is on stage now talking about curation projects on behalf of @curie but has mentioned the others like @c-squared and @ocd. Don't wait for them to find you, find them.

In my opinion, no community can find and include everyone, but every individual can find, create and be a valuable part of one. The future of Steem is communities tied to applications that distribute and a large part of that is the willingness of individuals to take the initiative and play and learn to work out what works for them.

We are all part of this and even though we have individual voices, together we can make a lot of noise.

Nice summary of the first part of day 1 of conferences.

In my opinion, no community can find and include everyone, but every individual can find, create and be a valuable part of one.

I like this thought which I can agree with.

This part also jumped out at me as I think we sometimes try too hard to attract readers and followers when we can seek then out in the many communities already setup! I am excited about the thought of an ecosystem connected our communities to the world with Decentralized gateways being created here on Steem!

"Steemit.com is not going to be a focus for the future and it was confirmed as now being in "maintenance mode" and "One of the benefits of phasing out steemit.com" -> Wait, what? I want Steemit to continue to be innovative! I mean, this plaform has it's own value, not only to run other things on it. Look at it as an OS for a PC. Windows is still being developed and more new features are being added. It's far from in 'maintenance' mode (some people might disagree, LOL). I'm really interested in learning more about the general vision for Steemit. Should we still invest in it, not only money, but also time?

Steemit.com is only an interface view onto the blockchain. Steem is not leaving and there are plenty of other sites like @steempeak or @busy.org that take steemit.com's place already. There are more views to come.

Thank you for the best update I’ve read yet.
Love this

means that there is going to be increasing experimentation across decentralized teams to find the right blend for the targeted audience.

We need all of that experimentation cross pollinating and pushing it all to greater and greater heights. The competition and diversity is great for steem!! Can’t wait to hear more about destiny.

I agree, It is going to be a strongest ideas survive situation.

Thanks for the recap T - well reported.

Looking forward to day 2 analysis.

cheers. It was a very interesting day with lots of conversations and things to think about. Tomorrow is going to have some different thoughts again with the round tables.

Useful write-up, thanks. Keep em coming!

(interesting to hear collective message around the future being in Dapps not Steemit itself. Makes sense. People can now stop debating this point and move forward)

People can now stop debating this point and move forward

If only. Many are still confused I think when it comes to Steem and Steemit. I am looking forward to the expanding ecosystem and what will happen when more users come in.

We are all part of this and even though we have individual voices, together we can make a lot of noise

Back in the horrible days of having to wear a suit and things, I had to travel to mainland Europe and Ireland, a few times a year.
It was always a party on company expenses...And always a lot of drunken noise and debauched goings on.
Ah, the memories....

So in that vein, I did some research for you all.!!!!!
You can thank me later...

Krakow is said to have the highest density of bars and clubs per square kilometre in the world.
There are 2 party districts in Krakow. One is the Main Market area, and the other is Kazimierz (10 mins walk from the Main Market). Main Market area is a way more touristy, while Kazimierz attracts more sophisticated clients. , < not relevant.

With over 200,000 students in Krakow.there are many strip clubs and lots of 'adult' entertainment' orientated, establishments.

I'll do full expose and post tomorrow.....

Saying that, 1sbd from each attendee, into my account, will ensure that my report never see's the light of blockchain...

lololol

It has been fun and strange.

300 geeks in one room? - Now why would that be strange..?

...or are you referring to 'that club', second on the right just past the ....oops..

In my opinion, no community can find and include everyone, but every individual can find, create and be a valuable part of one.

Well I cannot agree more. But it is hard to build a community based on content. The best performing communities are the ones which are able to give a decent upvote!
Joining a community is easy, participating in a community is not that hard, the hard part is to build/start a community. Take for instance our SBC community. The main account has around 2500SP, if it would have been 25K SP our community would be much bigger.

Cheers,
Peter

Communities at the moment rely heavily on SP but in the future, who knows. At the moment SP is king but i have some ideas i will put forward later that might change the views.

curious about them!

Thanks Tarz. You are my sponge so take it all in and analyze the crap out of it.

Doing my best. There is a lot to take in :D

You have successfully connected us to Poland, for those of us who are not physically present there. I couldn't agree more with @techslut

money is not everything, community is.

The need for community building cannot be overemphasized, every other innovation, development of apps and projects is sustained by the strength and unity of a community. I believe so much in steem, and I'm certain that there's so much future ahead of it, just as @ned tried explaining. Well done for sharing

The infrastructure needs to develop before the user base because people are impatient.

Thanks for being our eyes and ears at Steemfest.

I believe next years' Steemfest has much more potential than this year's. That's because all the pieces of the puzzle necessary for mass onboarding should be in place. Until then, it seems that we're living a quiet period great for accumulation.

yep, I agree with you. This one is more of the spreading of ideas.
