Why did I go to Steemfest2 in Lisbon, Portugal? ✈️ 🇵🇹

Hello there. My name is America, one half of the @cybercodetwins and I hail from the States. My curiosity and sense of adventure got to me and I wanted to say thanks with the help of @VirtualGrowth and an anonymous whale that I was able to have the opportunity to meet the STEEM community, participate in a graphene-based hackathon which is a rarity in itself and to have a book signed by the amazing @wmougayar who I was surprised also was going to SteemFest2. Everything else that happened was a bonus! Ka-ching! 🎇

[Day 0] Pre-Hackathon Mixer 🍺

Did you know that Lisbon, Portugal is a city older than Rome? In fact, it’s the second oldest European capital after Athens. I let that thought sink into me when I was attending the mixer with a dozen programmers the night before. It was a blast to be drinking in the beautiful sights under the starry night and moon.

[Day 1] SteemFest2 Hackathon 💻

The hackathon took place at a dedicated hackerspace in the inspirational LX Factory for 24 hours to work on our concepts. Then we were to present the concepts at SteemFest2 on Friday at 4pm.

Which one caught your interest and why? 🤔

The top four most-used blockchains at the moment is Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitshares, and Steem. @blocktivity Of course, building an entire blockchain from scratch is hard and time-consuming so really in the end, the DApps should get simpler and thinner to code. The whole point of a blockchain is that one is crowdsourcing infrastructure.

I found that the potential for the Steem blockchain is just starting to be discovered!

What did you end up building? 🔨

I could not help but think about the art renaissance while traveling in Europe with its rich culture. It was a period that allowed artists to have greater flexibility in what they were to able to produce to enrich culture and their surrounding communities. Why wouldn’t the blockchain renaissance follow those same footsteps and empower individuals this way? This time it can bring forth the support for content-creators who can bring even more value to their communities.

CryptoPatrons : Patreon but with Crypto 🚀

Instead of using a bot to upvote per post or per video in Steemit, one can simply focus on supporting the user thru CryptoPatrons. It is like Patreon but in crypto. One can login with a Steemit account.

What were the projects about?

Was a bit surprised that out of the 70 people who attended the hackathon, only 6 projects presented their ideas on stage!

• @Phenom - First steem-powered fully-automated bounty platform for ICO
• @Utopian-io. The founder @elear left his full time job to work on this proof of concept full time!
• @SteemitWorldMap — Find and share posts with others from all over the world.
• @CryptoPatrons - “Patreon but with Crypto”. (Sign up for Beta thru the chatbot)

What’s next? ⏭️

2017 Roadmap 🛣️ [Nov 2017— Dec 2017]- Weekly Updates 📅

1. Web Application request Active Authority on first login, using Steem Connect.

2. Web Application shows subscribers (amounts from custom_json transactions on Blockchain)

3. Web Application allows setting subscriptions in custom_json transactions.

4. Each month, a script is run which checks the current subscriptions and creators transfer on the user behalf of SteemConnect.

For now, it’s back to the rabbit hole I go! 🕳️ 🐇 Already looking forward to SF3! Sis does, too.

Disclosure: I’m currently working on a Graphene-based project that was recently funded earlier this year with its own I.T.O before the hype kicked in. That’s a story for another time.
