Poker at Steem Fest | See how it went down

A bunch of Steemians - and many bystanders...

...gathered yesterday night at the Qubus restaurant to play the second Poker at Steem Fest tournament. Thank you @roelandp for putting together the Steem Fest! None of this little activities like a bunch of Steemians playing poker would be possible without you.

Players started to arrive at 19:30 and by 20:00 we were already 14 people (by the way, thanks @llfarms and @guyfawkes4-20 for arranging the place for the tourney). We were ready to play but, we didn't expect so many people wanting in... We only brought one deck but we needed to play in two tables - the ideal number of players per table is 9. Thankfully, @timsaid came to the rescue and he had one deck of cards that he let us use. Thanks @rivalzzz for the other deck!

We started to play around 20:30 and since we didn't want the tourney to finish too late, we decided to make it a 1,000 chip stack with starting blinds of 5/10, timing every blind raise every 15 minutes.

Bringing sunglasses and a hoodie to kick some ass @nanzo-scoop, @gargon with a strong live poker experience, @aggroed who we all know loves card games, @pgarcgo striking with some sick math and probability skills, @bubke with an indescifrable Poker face, @zlatan-spielberg wielding a new skill set and @leotrap with a hardcore aggressive strategy saw their faces in table number one.

@blocktrades with some sick reading skills, @el-cr brought some serious poker experience from Panama, @cryptogee who arrived a bit late but still kicked some ass, @lizanomadsoul from Germany bringing great hand reading, @martibis showing that bluffing can get you far, @gexi showing us that a tight strategy sometimes is the best, @theaustrianguy winning and losing stacks like crazy and me @anomadsoul faced each other in the second table.

After around one hour and a half of play time, only 7 players remained. That meant we were able to join tables.

Oh right, we also had the presence of @gtg, @timsaid, @guyfawkes4-20, @celestal, @tarazkp and @llfarms as bystanders, @gtg even started to read Poker for dummies just to be able to understand what was going on every hand.

3 hours passed and only @el-cr, @theaustrianguy and @bubke remained alive. Competing for a 1,500 Steem prize pool is serious business and the player's face definitely changed to a more competitive one.

A few hands were dealt and the smallest stack gave in to the attacks of the larger stacks and @theaustrianguy won third place. Only @el-cr and @bubke still playing for first place.

After several hands and realizing the stacks didn't change much - this means both players have similar approaches, experience and reading skill set - both Steemians decided to split the pot.

Congratulations to @el-cr @bubke and @theaustrianguy! I hope we get to play together next year!

It's worth mentioning that @blocktrades, @gargon, @pgarcgo and @nanzo-scoop played in the first tournament in Lisbon, I think I'm starting to see a pattern here :P

Again, thanks to @roelandp for organizing Steem Fest and giving us the chance to put up this little side events for specific niches.

@anomadsoul, nice post! I'd used to gamble a lot, but in 2011 I quit. What currency did you use for the game? STEEM, SBD or...?
