Our Family Day Out at the Royal Mint's Family Fun Day..
With the kids heading back to school next week after what felt like the longest summer holiday in history, we were looking for one last chance to soak up the sun and enjoy a final family day out. When I heard that the Royal Mint was hosting a "Family Fun Day" complete with an urban market, free games, and activities for the kids, I knew it was an opportunity we couldn't miss. As an avid coin collector, the fact that there would be stalls selling coins, including the new Gruffalo's Child silver proof 50p, made it an even more enticing outing for us all.
A SNOW DOME IN AUGUST??!!??
The Royal Mint really went above and beyond for families, with stalls set up in their "Urban Market" offering everything from handmade crafts to delicious street food. But what really stole the show for the kids were the free games and activities. From face painting to treasure hunts, there was something for everyone. Our two little ones were in their element, darting from one station to the next, soaking up the last of the summer fun. Watching them run around with their faces painted as their favorite animals, grinning from ear to ear, was a joy in itself. It felt like the perfect way to end the summer holidays.
Meanwhile, I had the chance to indulge my passion for coin collecting. Being able to browse the market stalls and chat with fellow collectors was a treat, but the highlight for me was getting my hands on the new Gruffalo's Child silver proof 50p. The coin itself is stunning – a colorful and detailed tribute to one of the most beloved children's stories. It was the perfect addition to my collection and a special memento from the day.
A QUICK BITE TO EAT
The weather couldn’t have been better for our family outing. The sun was shining, and there was a gentle breeze in the air – the kind of perfect summer day that makes you want to bottle it up and save it for those cold winter months ahead. As we sat down with our ice creams, watching the kids make the most of the games, I felt a sense of contentment. It was the perfect way to bid farewell to summer and get ready for the busy weeks of school runs, homework, and packed lunches that lay ahead.
By the time we left, the kids were exhausted but happy – a sure sign of a successful day out. With their backpacks filled with little trinkets and prizes from the games, they were already talking about when we could go back. For me, it was a day that combined my love for coins with the chance to create lasting memories with the family. A win-win all around.
As the summer comes to a close, our day at the Royal Mint’s Family Fun Day will be one of those cherished memories we look back on – the perfect end to a long, sun-soaked holiday. Here's to new coins, family adventures, and the start of a new school year!
