"My Photo memories" contest #26

in #steemexclusive3 months ago

Once again I'm here to participate in the contest: 'My photo memories' all thanks to @yetaras(75).
A memory in my own definition is an unforgettable event that leaves a positive or negative reaction on our faces each time we reminisce. It can be embedded in our minds, phone, photo album or even a piece of object kept for that purpose.
In this contest, I want to share a memory of a get together party we had with my Grandma.

First of all, all the extended family members were invited in advance, I just gave birth to my daughter then, so I was in my hometown for omugwo. It was around December of that year, my aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces started arriving since two days to the D-Day.

         My Grandmother

The occasion was such an exciting one because my grandma is a selfless, strong spirited, fun to be with woman. She dots on all her grandchildren, while growing up we practically lived with her. We would run to her house which is not far from my parents house on a daily basis, she would give us enough food, sit us on her laps and genuinely ask about our welfare. She was a business woman selling yam, garri, fish, crayfish on wholesale meaning she had money to cater for us.
Our holidays with her were always glorious. She was the one who instilled most of the godly attributes I have in me. She thought us how to sing our kingdom songs by heart because it was a routine to sit around her on a mat every evening and sing her our best songs while she nodded and sang along. Then, on some special nights she will tell us folklores to correct us or appreciate good deeds exhibited by any of us during the day.

She taught me how to read the bible in efik language and how to recite some chapters in the book of Psalms. At the end of each holiday, grandma will bid us goodbye with loads of food items and materials to start school with. I miss those days 😭

Unfortunately, growing up happened to us. We were either married out or moved out for school or greener pastures so grandma had to deal with old age and it's accompanying pains. As such we were excited when we had the invite for a timeout with Grandma. The activities were simple but enjoyable. We had a walk with her every morning, sang songs every evening, took bible quiz, shared stories etc. We gave her gifts and she showered blessings on each and every one of us.

Personally, whenever I visit, I make sure I go see her, fetch water if needed, wash her clothes, cook a meal, sing a song for her while massaging any part of the body she would need to be massaged.

In conclusion, taking care of the elderly is a good deed, this is the time in their lives when they feel so helpless and pained that they could no longer do all the things they always did when they were young. Therefore, it's in our place to show them all the love we could give and try to do things to ease their burden.
My grandma is almost 90years old, but though weak and frail she's still strong spirited and quite hopeful, when I think about those days I just smile and feel happy that she impacted so much in us and that she has lived to reap the fruits of her labor.
