Well, Hashtag has been developed as a culture these days mostly on popular social networks, including Steemit,Twitter, Facebook, Google+, lnstagram, and Pinterest. But what actually is Hashtag and what’s the main use of it?

Hashtag is simply a word or unspaced phrase, that begins with the Hash sign (#). Hashtags can be placed anywhere in the social media posts: in the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in between. The use of Hashtag drastically increased in 2007 through the tweets relating to the San Diego forest fires in Southern California.

The Hashtag is likely the most popular means of categorizing content on social media which was initially used in Twitter for grouping the tweets. Hashtag makes your own content discoverable to others and allows you to find relevant content from other people and businesses. The Hashtag also allows you to connect with and engage other social media users based on a common them or interest.

Here are the few things that we need to keep in mind while using the Hashtag:

• Try to be specific: This helps to reach the target audience.

• Try to be social network oriented: Hashtags on steemit and Twitter tend to be more focused on a topic of conversation whereas Hashtags on photo sharing platform such as Instagram tend to be more focused on description of the content.

• Try to be short and sweet: Long Hashtags are not preferred.

• Don't Hashtag everything: People who know very little about Hashtag think that using Hashtag is a fashion and tend to use it on literally every single word. STOP IT! Otherwise you may get suspended or your posts will be filtered in other people’s search result.
