HOW TO HANDLE SEXUAL URGES

The inability to handle sexual urges properly has ruined the lives of many. It has dwarfed the giants that God made many people to be. Hence, they are unable to reach their full potentials and live purposeful, meaningful lives.

But know this: No matter how far gone you are, there is always hope! You can always regain control over your sexual urges. You can learn to fulfill your sexual urges in such a way that is pleasing to God. After all, God put the urge in humans in the first place.

Before your sex drive can be properly controlled, you need to yield your whole life to God first and enthrone Christ as Lord in your heart. The way to do this is by believing the Gospel of Christ, and being baptised for the remission of sins so that your body can become the temple of the Holy Spirit (1Cor. 6.19; Acts 2.38).

Scripture tells us that sexual urges should be satisfied within a monogamous, heterosexual marriage only!
Hebrews 13:4: " Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers."

You must know that sexual urge is not your enemy. Your real battle is spiritual in nature. That is where your focus should be.

1Peter 5:8: " Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour."
The devil is trying to use illicit sex to distract you from the battle against him. Do not give in!

Eph 6:12: " For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens." Your old nature will always try to take over the throne of your heart but when you put on the whole armour of God, you will be able to kill this insurgency.

From this armour, there are two things you must hold dear if you want to win!

1. Prayer. Begin each day by asking God to give you the spiritual discipline of self control
2. The Word of God. Meditate on it daily as it will equip you with wisdom you need to overcome temptations.

The battle for purity begins within the walls of your heart (James 1.14). Saturate your mind with wholesome thoughts and ensure you do not put yourself in compromising situations that can make you give in to this urge.

Remember, you can overcome gratification of sexual urges if you yield your life wholly to Christ and allow His word to guide you.
Remember that Jesus is willing to accept you as you are and transform you for greatness if you let Him rule your heart.

You were made to achieve more than you think. Stop playing small.
