Be Humble!
Philippians 3:12-21
12
KJV:Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13
KJV:Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14
KJV:I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15
KJV:Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16
KJV:Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
17
KJV:Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
18
KJV:(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19
KJV:Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
20
KJV:For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21
KJV:Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
What is Humility?
Humility is simply the quality of not thinking that you are better than other people; the act of being humble.
In our world today, many people are proud of themselves, of what they are or who they have become, they are proud of their positions, titles, status, some are even proud of the least thing like beauty, while some are proud of their talent, the gift God has blessed them with.
I personally have come across and in contact with people who are just too proud of their family background, their wealth and riches. Money doesn't really make a man, as to what he carries.
Some are proud of the knowledge they have acquired, as well as the wisdom God has given.
But search the scripture, despite Paul's great successes, he focused on the goal yet to be achieved. He did not allow previous successes swell him to be proud, instead he set his mind towards that which is greater than every thing he had achieved and own.
As Christians, we are encouraged to behave in that manner. We are urge to observe and imitate those who live according to the word of God.
1Peter 5:5
KJV:Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble
Be clothed with humility, for God loves and exalted the humble, Jesus Christ was meek and humble, as such, let us too that are followers of Christ seek after humility.
Conclusion
James 4:10
KJV:Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up
Intelligence, beauty, wealth, titles and every other achievementa should not make you proud. God hates the proud but gives grace to the humble.
He resists them that are proud......So beloved BE HUMBLE!
