Horse The Animal

The Horse is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus.
It is an odd-toed ungulate mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae.
The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature, Eohippus, into the large, single-toed animal of today.

The Horse can doze and enter light sleep while standing, an adaptation from life as a prey animal in the wild.
Lying down makes an animal more vulnerable to predators.
Horses are able to sleep standing up because a "stay apparatus" in their legs allows them to relax their muscles and doze without collapsing.

Horses are used for riding and transport.
They are also used for carrying things or pulling carts, or to help plow farmer's fields in agriculture.
Today, horses are mostly used for entertainment and sports. They are also still used for work and transportation in some places.
