THE WEALTH OF A MAN IS NOT ALL HE HAS ACCUMULATED, BUT IN THE LARGNESS OF HIS HEART TO LET GO OFF
At a certain level, I measured growth with how many programs and great opportunities you're selected for and can take advantage of.
Now, I measure growth by how many seemingly great opportunities I'm able to look away from and say, "you look great, but I'll pass."
It's not that they're not good enough, some are actually the best you'll come across, but there's just a stage and phase in life where your priorities change, your vision is realigned, your purpose becomes clearer, and you're just very specific about that "next" thing you get yourself into.
When some people hear you let those opportunities go, they may think there's something wrong with you, but the truth is there isn't.
There comes a time when you get tired of the bright lights and stages, the applause of the crowd who fix their gaze on you one moment but can't remember your face the next minute, constant hopping on and off planes, chasing the next bullet point that looks good on your CV but does little or nothing to change your current state, that next "like" on instagram, and much more.
In this phase of being, there comes a moment you ask yourself, what's the next best thing for me, and not what society says should be the natural and next trajectory for me. You come to that place of awareness, where you live in the moment, and you're present in the now.
At that time, seemingly little things like the smile of a loved one, a place to call home, the smell a good meal in the kitchen, raindrops that fall on you as you take that long walk to nowhere, companionship, friendship, and much more means more than all the world can offer.
Indeed, the wealth of a man is not in all he has accumulated, but in the largeness of his heart to let go off and walk away from.
Society is addicted to chasing the next "high", but you can get out of that rat race and just take time out to live in the present, and breathe.
You've done all you can today, tomorrow will take care of itself. It always does.
Much gratitude to my boss @michaelcj.
Selah...!
